HI I just wanted to know if you get engaged and you buy platinum ring for fiance and he buys you diamond ring then do you still have to exchange more rings on the wedding day too. I don’t know if my fiance is going to buy me a wedding ring, and I am not going to buy him one because i paid a fortune on the engagement ring i bought him and i find it pointless buying another, but is that what everyone does? I dont want to ask my fiance because if he wasn’t going to buy a wedding ring then this will make him think he has to and I dont want that.
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
I bought my husband a silver wedding band to exchange on the day ( it was £50) for the same reason i spent alot on his engagement ring. It was just for the purpose of exchanging rings :D i got a beautiful ring obviously because i can wear both on one finger!!
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
^ I guess guys don't traditionally get an engagement ring, right?
We're just getting him a wedding band and I'll have both an engagement ring and wedding band
It all comes down to you Soha :) If you want to do something, do it... if not, don't. At the end of the day its all about your comfort level :D
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
usually this is what happens:
Engagement: only the girl gets a diamond ring. Guy usually doesnt get a ring at the engagement (I think Pakistani people give the guy a ring at the engagement, but traditionally [Im talking about western culture - cause i live in Canada] he doesnt get a ring). I gave my fiance a watch for the engagement.
Wedding: the guy gives the girl a matching wedding band to her diamond ring. the girl gives the guy a wedding band - so this is where the guy gets his ring
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
^i'm doing the same! I just don't get what would happen on the wedding day if he already has an engagement ring.. cause guys don't normally wear two rings on the finger like the girl.
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
i received a diamond engagement band from my fiance on our engagemnt and i gave him a white gold one in return. but because my fiance doesnt really like wearing gold, im not getting him a wedding band, and he hasnt said anything about giving me one either, so i dont think we're going to go with the wedding-band tradition :) he is however going to get a watch from my parents, thats tradition, a wedding band usually isnt :) but its up to you :)
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
^ same as you guys. The girl usually gets an engagement ring and the guy gets a watch for the engagement
and then on the wedding, the girl gets a wedding band and guy gets one too
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
I think if he already got an engagement ring, and you want to give him a wedding band as well, he can wear the engagement ring on his right hand, and then you can place the wedding band on his left hand.
Otherwise, what one of my friends did, cause she gave her fiance an engagement ring, and then realized that she should have just given him a wedding band at the wedding, a couple days before the wedding, she took back the engagement ring she gave him, had it polished, and put it in a ring box, and put that on for him at the wedding, when he put her wedding band on.
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
In my family, I have always seen the girl getting an engagement ring and the guy getting a nice watch. At the wedding, she gets a wedding band and so does he.
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
At my engagement I got my engagement ring and I put a wedding band on his finger. I'm not sure if he wore it around or not after that but before the wedding he put it in a box and gave it back to my mum. So then at the wedding I gave him the ring again and a watch that my parents had given him money to buy. I also got a diamond wedding ring on the wedding. But my fiancé only got the ring coz he couldn't find something better. I think he looked for a nEcklace or earrings or anything really which could b used as a token buy found buying the ring to b the easiest thing. Don't think there are any official rules to this stuff you can just do what works for you.
Re: Engaged, diamond and platinum rings, now wedding, more rings?
I would like him to wear a ring even after engagement. Hmmm...
Maybe I could get a cheaper silver one for engagement and a proper one to replace it at the wedding? Or just, take the engagement ring back and put it back on.
I think I may end going with a silver ring for the engagement.
