Eng vs WI Test 4

Started today:

Currently Eng 108/0 at lunch (Day 1).

Strauss 71*
Cook 37*

Flat pitches are no longer a sub-continental phenomenon. This Barbados pitch is pretty flat according to CMJ and Jonathan Agnew

England 194/0 Strauss 119*, Cook 74*

England 230/1.

Finally a wicket for WI. Eng 229/1. Pitch seems similar to Karachi wicket.

Boycott "This pitch is as flat as a pancake"

West Indies 219/3

Sarwan 100*, his 14th test hundred in his 78th test

Chanderpaul 37*

Tea Day 3

WEST INDIES 265/3

Sarwan 118*
Chanderpaul 63*

A wicket falls at last but in quite dubious circumstances. Chanderpaul's appeal is rejected by third umpire Daryl Harper; the third LBW decision upheld by third umpire in this game. The ball would have comfortably gone over the stumps according to Viv Richards and CMJ (Christopher Martin Jenkins)

84.5
Anderson to Chanderpaul, OUT, Anderson's got him! The inswinger darts back into Chanderpaul who shoulders arms, and up goes the finger. As you'd expect, it's been referred by Chanderpaul and the problem now is height. Now, the third umpire doesn't have the benefit of predictive hawkeye so they can't tell whether it would've gone over the stumps...and up goes the finger for a second time. Well, for all England's celebrations, that decision really does sum up the sham of a system that this referral experiment is

S Chanderpaul lbw b Anderson 70 (134b 11x4 0x6) SR: 52.23

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes what a sham!!

What's the point of this referral experiment if the third umpire does not have access to hawkeye? You might as well scrap it. I thought the idea behind it was to reduce controversy, not add to it; clearly quite the opposite is happening in this game!!

WEST INDIES 302/4, require another 99 to save the follow-on

I wonder whether he followed or read reports on the great wicket at the National Cricket Stadium, Karachi.

If this wicket is pancake than what is Karachi's wicket.

West Indies 302/4.

Chanderpaul out for 70.

Sarwan 137 not out.

^ Rock the point is contrary to the myth flat pitches are not just restricted to the sub-continent

In England for instance apart from Headingley (Leeds), Trent Bridge (Nottingham) and perhaps Old Trafford (Manchester) the rest of the pitches esp. The Oval and Lords in London are full of runs

Visiting teams regularly post 500-600 at THe Oval!!

Another referral howler, the 5th in this match

Harper getting it wrong again!! WEST INDIES 334/5

95.2 Swann to Nash, OUT, that's close - he's rapped him on the pads and up goes the appeal. Oh lord. Here we go again - Strauss has called for a referral. Now the umpire turned that down. So, can Daryl Harper be 100% certain the ball is going to hit the stumps? Perhaps a little high, so it won't be a surprise if it's given not-out. I don't know why it's taking so long - it seems perfectly straightforward: there is enough doubt to vindicate the original not-out decision. We're coming up to two minutes of wasted time, and - well, I am flabbergasted. He has been given out. Again, it was fairly clear the ball was going over the top yet Harper has told the onfield umpire to change his decision. I'm afraid I'm speechless

*BP Nash lbw b Swann 33 (43b 5x4 1x6) SR: 76.74 *

^ Could it be that the umpires are doing this on purpose so ICC ditches the referral system? I mean, come on, the whole point of the referral sys is to get it right. If they still get it wrong then what's the point. I say ditch the umpire who gets it wrong even after watching the replays on TV.

^ I guess Harper would say:

Not having the benefit of the hawkeye (which makes a mockery of the referral system) = less accuracy, so don't blame me

Despite the referral blunders WI should still save the follow-on (44 more still needed)

Re: Eng vs WI Test 4

Harper and Koertzen are the 2 most incompetant umpires ..... closely followed by the NZ clown whose antics r unfortunately more famous than incorrect decisions

I just hope Sarwan who is playing one heck of a innings emulates Younus' Innings and bats England out of the Match ..... still a long way to go though

way to go Sarwan
