SAF start as slight favourites since the english batting is a bit out of sorts coz Collingwood and Bell are desparately out of form and SAF has strong Pace battery
so shall be an exiting series :D
Re: ENG vs. SAF 1st Test at Lord's Thursday 10th. July
I hope South Africa thrash England. Steyn has been in gr8 form all year. M. Morkel is the next big thing from South Africa so it'll be interesting so see how England's top order faces them 2.
Re: ENG vs. SAF 1st Test at Lord's Thursday 10th. July
will go to lords ground to see on sunday , Day 4
hopefully it will be fun lovin n good excitement game
Re: ENG vs. SAF 1st Test at Lord's Thursday 10th. July
South Africa's coach, Mickey Arthur, believes his side holds the edge going into Thursday's keenly anticipated first Test at Lord's, both in terms of the battery of quick bowlers at their disposal, and the solidity that comes from their recent run of six series wins out of seven. England may be on the verge of naming the same side for a record sixth match in a row, but in Arthur's opinion, without Andrew Flintoff in their ranks, they are some way short of a full-strength line-up.
"England are probably where we were a year ago," said Arthur. "They aren't quite as settled as we are at the moment, but they are a very good team, and incredibly hard to beat at home. Against New Zealand, they were very good and very steady, and did a good job as a unit, but what they did lack was the genuine pace of a Flintoff, Steve Harmison, or even a Simon Jones."

Have been following the readings on the news leading up to the first test on Thursday and quite excited at the prospect of seeing South African fast bowlers in action against a decent English side (without Vaughan and Flintoff). Mickey Arthur stated that it has taken two years for his side to form as a unit and there were three things that he wanted to achieve in two years; Play India in India (drawn series), England in England and Australia in Australia.
Jacques Kallis: “There are three things I really want to achieve: One is beating England in England, a second is beating Australia - and the third is winning the World Cup” (CricInfo)
Re: ENG vs. SAF 1st Test at Lord's Thursday 10th. July
...has all the ingredients to make for a good game, i do give SA the edge, their batting line up is without doubt the strongest.
Re: ENG vs. SAF 1st Test at Lord's Thursday 10th. July
What are the teams ??
England
1) Alastair Cook
2) Andrew Strauss
3) Michael Vaughan (Captain)
4) Kevin Pietersen
5) Ian Bell
6) Paul Collingwood
7) Tim Ambrose (WK)
8) Stuart Broad
9) Ryan Sidebottom
10) Monty Panesar
11) James Anderson
South Africa
1) Graeme Smith (Captain)
2) Neil McKenzie
3) Hashim Amla
4) Jacques Kallis
5) Ashwell Prince
6) AB de Villiers)
7) Mark Boucher (WK)
8) Morne Morkel
9) Paul Harris
10) Dale Steyn
11) Makhaya Ntini.
Depending on the pitch SA might play a fourth seamer (Andre Nel) in place of the spinner Harris.

stronger than England but not the strongest IMO. Australia I believe still has the strongest batting line-up - Hayden (missed WI series thru injury), Jacques or Katich, Ponting, Clarke, Hussey and Symonds. India has a pretty strong batting line-up too which is the main reason why they have had more close test series against Australia and have the best record against them since 2001 than any other test team winning 5 and losing 6 of the 15 tests - Tendulkar, Gambhir, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman and Dhoni (when he returns to the side)
SA (Steyn, Ntini and Morkel) has one of the best pace attacks too. The spin department is not strong though. England sure have an edge there with Panesar in their ranks.
The current England team is a mediocre side barring Pietersen and Vaughan and if SA can work on the mental aspect of their game, there is no reason why they should n't beat England 3-1 if not 4-0!
Re: ENG vs. SAF 1st Test at Lord's Thursday 10th. July
It is going to end up in a miserable draw as weather prediction is awful, rain most of the time.

Very good start for England. Although with 3 down at 100 odd SA let hem get away with it.
