Pakistan might not have energy but Pakistani nation has lots of energy and they are using it for killing each other on daily basis.
Look at what is happening in Karachi now a days.
It takes lot of energy and strength to kill an innocent human being just because he speaks a different language or belongs to a different Muslim sect , or does not believe in waging Jihad against fellow Muslims.
You have to ask why the leaders are not promoting and aiding renewable energy projects?? Don’t blame engineers and academia. Apparently in previous years, there was a huge tax on solar panels, making them unaffordable? That’s what my husband tells me anyway. I already voiced my opinion but I’m told that American’s are not gods and that Pakistan is a mighty nuclear power.
I was planning to post that projects link too. I think its called barefoot-engineers. It take them to train one woman over six months.
hmmmm
I don’t think people should look at leadership for such thing. Solar is still affordable. I am not getting into the details why don’t make solar cell in pakistan.
And DO NOT get me started on engineers, I know there are open Source free (surveillance)projects, for same projects Govt of pak go country to country begging for technology.
I know that for sure. Its not a guess or any thing. Our engineers are pretty useless.. I wonder why.
It is leadership that wants to see a country progress and prosper that makes these things happen. Which is not the case in Pakistan. All the technology is out there, they just have to make it accessible and affordable. China is a huge exporter of solar cells. One can turn to their expertise to start producing cells in Pakistan, which will provide both energy and jobs. I may be too cynical but I imagine all the corruption would never let anything positive happen.
The invention and innovation in US and UK was never sponsored by government or their leaders. All the inventions and innovations were result of a need which existed and someone worked to fulfill that need.
Now there are some government agencies which sponsor research or do their own research.
What makes you say that Mirch? Virtually all research is funded by government bodies (UK/EU grants), at least here in the U.K. Some by energy companies. You write a proposal, submit to a funding body and hope you get the money to do that research.
But Pakistan doesn't need to research new technologies, they already exist. What the people need is help to implement these technologies, factories to be built, the infrastructure put in place. Somehow, I don't see Pakistani government subsiding renewables. The powers that be don't care about helping Pakistan prosper (I'm talking about within Pakistan). A desperate country, desperate people, creates instability and that is the requirement and one that is happily being fulfilled as long as the right pockets are lined.
Malaysia protected it's economy by making it's own cars. Importing foreign cars has a absolutely huge tax that only the richest can afford. Everyone else has to buy a locally made car. But they fulfilled a need in their country, which has almost made sure they have a thriving industry that provides jobs.
You are right and I am right too.
All the basic inventions and innovations like car , electricity , phone , computer , tv , radio , locomotive , sewing machines etc were invented by individuals who saw a need and fulfilled it. Now a days government sponsors/funds some kind of R&D but not all kind of research is funded or sponsored by government still.
Pakistan is at a stage where anything or everything does not need to be invented , all they have to do is use their genius to take advantage of those innovations and inventions and domesticate them.
The invention and innovation in US and UK was never sponsored by government or their leaders. All the inventions and innovations were result of a need which existed and someone worked to fulfill that need.
Now there are some government agencies which sponsor research or do their own research.
mm india did this too. protected its local car industry by slapping huge import duties on foreign cars. so for 60 years people drove around in horrible boxes that came in all of two varieties, that could only be afforded by the rich. economy opened up 15 years ago, dabba-makers couldnt compete. more people suddenly saw they could make cars too by piggybacking on foreign companies’ technology.
whats appropriate for one group of people with a certain set of conditions is not appropriate for another group.
I didn't say Pakistan should do this. I was giving an example that the leaders of a country that want it to prosper take measures to try and make this happen.
I agree that the power lies with the government too. The reason the West exploded ahead was not because the people are excessively talented. It's because there was a surplus of wealth which allowed the industrial revolution to happen there. You need to create the conditions to foster innovation, which the government has not done. People need water, and electricity, and housing before they can begin to consider starting their own business.
And I agree Stoppit, we need to take the technologies already possessed by the West. This is exactly what the Western world did 600 years ago, they built on what the Arabs knew and the Arabs didn't start from scratch either, they built on what the Greeks and Indians knew.
