First, to blame Pakistan Army isnt being fair, those soldiers are only following orders, the same kind of orders that get their butts killed everywhere including Siachen and now Wana.
Their supperiors have no choice, because the Military govt is under extreme pressure from everywhere to undertake this operation. You have the Americans, and their allies, and then you have those in Afghanistan. Karzai and others have been accusing Pak of not doing enough on their side of the border for a long time now.
Sher Shah Suri and other well wishers of Afghanistan may want to consider that the terrorists hiding in Wana and across Pakistan are not only a threat to Pak, but also to Afghanistan. Its they who run in out of Afghanistan across the border, bomb the markets of Kabul and then run back to the mountains in Pak where they are welcomed by the tribals as their guests. But despite this fact, we are admonished by the Pashthun govt of Afghanistan for not doing enough and by the Pashthuns on Pak side for doing the messy work of clean up. Damned if you do and damned if you dont. Afghans should either shut up or come do the job themselves.
If Pakistan was really an enemy of Pakhtuns or Pathans or whatever they call themselves, they would have undertaken the mission a long time ago, not dilly dally until the prssure got so strong form everyside. Fact is, Pakistan doesnt want to be in Wana, but we have no choice.
