End of the world on Wednesday?

A very interesting and historic experiment about the Big Bang theory is taking place on Wednesday. Why some scientists think it can result in doomsday, read the link below:

New Scientist Short Sharp Science Blog: Why the world WON’T end on September 10

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

ageeb pagal pana hai :bummer:

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

Don’t worry, we have SG1 on standby under Cheyenne mountain. Dr Carter will come up with something if it goes wrong. :smooth:

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

omg itz all bull*,,,ALLAH iz the 1 whoz gonna end the world coz hez the creater and believe that not any other crazy *

lets not go there, there is this thing called "MEANS". as in means of destruction. when Nagasaki was destroyed, a human made nuclear bomb was the "MEAN" of destruction.

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

lets wait n watch:hmmm: we all have to die one day anyhow:yawn:

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

I've been following this for sometime now. It should go rather smoothly. The risk of going it wrong isn't very high at all.

Now that the beam has been successfully tested in a clockwise direction, CERN plans to send it counterclockwise. Eventually two beams will be fired in opposite directions with the aim of recreating conditions a split second after the big bang, which scientists theorize was the massive explosion that created the universe.
“My first thought was relief,” said Evans, who has been working on the project since its inception in 1984. “This is a machine of enormous complexity. Things can go wrong at any time. But this morning has been a great start.”
He didn’t want to set a date, but said that he expected scientists would be able to conduct collisions for their experiments “within a few months.”

All this seems to be just a theory . Like theory of evolution. They are hoping to achieve what they want to achieve. And the good news is that if there is an end it is a few months away.

Let me repeat a joke at this point.
Scientists were able to clone humans finally so they challenged Allah to a contest to create humans and see who is a better creator.
A date was set all the people who wanted to observe gathered in a big stadium together with challenging scientist. Allah asked the scientists to go first. Scientists started to collect dirt to start their cloning , but Allah said : " Not so fast . Create your own dirt, this is mine.".

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

Black Hole is created through the collapse of matter, when the gravity overtakes the other 3 forces.

It seems to me that gravity will be replaced by the acceleration in this experiment (F=ma or W=mg is the same thing where a and g are replaceable). So when two particles are going to collide at the speed of light, the impact will collapse the particles into one another in such a way that they will crush to an even miniscule particle. This maybe be analogous to the star collapsing down to the size of a soccer ball and that is why scientists are hyping the phenomenon and calling it a mini black hole.

A black hole is called black hole cause even light cannot escape it. A proton has a diameter, much much smaller than the wavelength of the light beam so light cannot bounce off the proton to begin with, let alone escaping it.

Another characteristic of black hole is the gravity. Gravity of an object depends upon its mass. How much gravitational pull a proton or pair of proton can have?

In nutshell, this is a great experiment but calling it a creation of black hole or mini-big bang is really a hype.

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

this is very reassuring.

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

the world ending in 4 hrs is it?

its the end of the world as we know it

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

..and i feel fineeee

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

has the large hadron collider destroyed the earth yet?

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

Well they only did the first stage of tests to make sure it actually circulates the particles. The actual collision will take place at a later time (Stage 2). First phase has been successful.

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

It didn't, damn!

** Hackers infiltrate Large Hadron Collider systems and mock IT security

**Hackers have mounted an attack on the Large Hadron Collider, raising concerns about the security of the biggest experiment in the world. By Roger Highfield.

As the first particles were circulating in the machine near Geneva where the world wide web was born, a Greek group hacked into the facility, posting a warning about weaknesses in its infrastructure.

Calling themselves the Greek Security Team, the interlopers mocked the IT used on the project, describing the technicians responsible for security as “a bunch of schoolkids.”

However, despite an ominous warning “don’t mess with us,” the hackers said they had no intention of disrupting the work of the atom smasher.
“We’re pulling your pants down because we don’t want to see you running around naked looking to hide yourselves when the panic comes,” they wrote in Greek in a rambling note posted on the LHC’s network.

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

oh, it's already over? lol.

Re: End of the world on Wednesday?

This is a heartening piece of information in this bleak time. Pakistani scientist were involved in the preparation of the equipment setup at CERN.
