So I noticed online when our kids use slang and sexually explicit language they r being encouraged…and they are made to think tht it actually sounds cool?
I was shocked.
Do you think its a good practice?
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
Well this slang yoke is bit like dealing with Ace of spades - why talk in A la mode - will knock me Trouble and Strife , if she let me kids do this pony and trap ![]()
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
Encouraged by whom? By authority figures like parents? Most don't....a few will unintentionally promote it through their own parenting. Encouraged by peers? That seems more likely...but often times it's not a blatant encouragement....and is based more upon trying to "fit in" or emulating either negative or positive behaviors of someone who is considered popular or looked up to.
And you think this can't happen offline? What about on the phone? In schools? Personal interactions with peers?

Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
lol I know I was just messing LP
You are right, and I have heard kids use bad words in real life all the time (especially in Ireland, they like to use the F word a lot!) but they are generally discouraged by their parents/elders .... Online, thats a completely different story.... kids will say and do all sorts of things if there's a lack of supervision...

lack of supervision?
arent we all responsible...we r the ones encouraging..right?
we r old enough to discourage a kid..instead we make the kid feel its cool to use such language and to act so and so...to use slangs and make sexually explicit jokes....
so arent we responsible?
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
who is we?
because I, for sure, never encourage this kind of behaviour.
But yes, those who do promote it as being cool are responsible.
This is what I mean by lack of supervision... If you neglect your child, he/she will pick up habits/words that aren't good.... You are responsible for making sure your kid behaves!
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
Yeh - exactly who is 'we'? i haven't ever seen any swearing/slang encouraged anywhere - be it family/friends?
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
I didnt mean You in particular…it was a general “we”![]()
yeah… i guess so too
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
oho I know you didn’t mean me in particular… I meant to say what Cupcake said.
And I’m so gonna be a witch with my children when it comes to the internet ![]()
Re: encouraging kids to use slang online?
