Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

please share if you like & include your thoughts on this beautiful gift that we, as believers from our faith, have: the gift of encouragement of meditation & open mindedness.

best,
Duswhari

[3:17] They are steadfast, truthful, submitting, charitable, and meditators at dawn.

[9:112] They are the repenters, the worshipers, the praisers, the meditators, the bowing and prostrating, the advocators of righteousness and forbidders of evil, and the keepers of GOD’s laws. Give good news to such believers.

[17:79-80] During the night, you shall meditate for extra credit, that your Lord may raise you to an honorable rank. And say, “My Lord, admit me an honorable admittance, and let me depart an honorable departure, and grant me from You a powerful support.”

[25:63-66] The worshipers of the Most Gracious are those who tread the earth gently, and when the ignorant speak to them, they only utter peace. In the privacy of the night, they meditate on their Lord, and fall prostrate. And they say, “Our Lord, spare us the agony of Hell; its retribution is horrendous. It is the worst abode; the worst destiny.”

[26:217-220] And put your trust in the Almighty, Most Merciful. Who sees you when you meditate during the night. And your frequent prostrations. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.

[39:9] Is it not better to be one of those who meditate in the night, prostrating and staying up, being aware of the Hereafter, and seeking the mercy of their Lord? Say, “Are those who know equal to those who do not know?” Only those who possess intelligence will take heed.

[50:39-40] … praise and glorify your Lord before sunrise, and before sunset. During the night you shall meditate on His name, and after prostrating.

[73:1-8] O you cloaked one. Meditate during the night, except rarely. Half of it, or a little less.

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

u need to do some very coarse translation to get meditation as the meanings of the words in the verses u mentioned above....

e.g. istighfaar, tahajjud, qayam (for prayer), tasbeeh, etc dont translate to meditation....

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

                              meditation has to effects.

Physical: on brain electronic wave patterns.(like noise in electronic equipment)
Helps Working on thoughts.

Tahajud-qayyam does help you achieve the first part. Which brings harmony to brain which eventually is an essential part of making best use of you brain.

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

sochnay ki baat hay: Dushwari ne sub ke liay aik hi lafz estemal kia hay 'meditation'
ARM ne mukhtalif halatain bayan ki hain, istighfaar, tahajjud, qayam (for prayer), tasbeeh, etc Koran hum iss main aik ka azafa kar dayte hain.

donu theek hain. aghar aap ghor karain to istighfaar, tahajjud, qayam, tasbeeh, koran etc. main jo qadr e mushtaraq hay woh hay Zikar. Namaz bhi zikar hay, tasbih bhi zikar hay or tilawat e koran bhi zikar hay. Allah pakiza o bartar farmate hain.

our jab aap zehin, jism our roh ko rhythm main rakhna seekh layte yani halat e zikar main a jate ho aap ka nafss motmayn ho jata hay.

p.s. yeh sirf humari zati ray hay.

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

Saying this is one thing, saying that the verses quoted by Dushwari refer to meditation is not the correct conclusion IMO…

3:17: The word used is المستغفرين which does not translated to “The Meditators” but “Those who seek forgiveness/protection/shielding”

17:79: The word used is فتهجد which does not mean “So Meditate” but “So Reflect/Stay-Alert/Be-Attentive”

25:65: The clause used is والذين يبيتون لربهم سجدا وقيما which does not mean “In the privacy of the night, they meditate on their Lord, and fall prostrate” but “And those who stay firm for their Lord, in fall and rise (equivalently in prostration and standing alhough I do not accept the concept of physical worship).”

26:219: The clause used is الذي يريك حين تقوم وتقلبك في السجدين which does not mean “Who sees you when you meditate during the night. And your frequent prostrations” but “The One who sees you when you rise; and (you) turn into those who bow in adoration”

39:9: The clause is أمن هو قنت ءاناء اليل which does not mean “Is it not better to be one of those who meditate in the night” but “Is it not better to be one of those who remain dutiful in the night/darkest-hours (literal and symbolic)”

[50:40] The clause is ومن اليل فسبحه وأدبر السجود which does not mean “During the night you shall meditate on His name, and after prostrating” but “And in the darkest hours/times (lail is symbolic here), do your best; and (they) shall follow in the prostration.”

73:2: It is interesting that the traditionalists insist that Jesus used to say to the dead “Qum bi Izni Allah - Rise by the Call of the God” to bring them to life … So how does “Rise” become “Meditate” in your translation?

Please REFLECT on the MEANING OF THE VERSES… it is GOOD MEDITATION!

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

hypnotix_2000, no one can claim to be the perfect and absolute interpreter of the letter of Allah swt. if you look at the literal meaning of the english word: 'meditate', you will note that it translates to 'think, reflect' and extrapolations, in diff contexts, may become 'be attentive' or 'be alert.'
there must be a range of arabic words that are variants for meditation in meaning as vast and general as thinking to as specific as zikr only of Almighty, as each of the tranlated Quranic ayaat above, when read in Arabic, will have you witness.

thanks for the perspective.

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

Meditation is about reaching a state of "Nothingness" or "Voidness" and not just about calming your mind. Since when Islam started preaching this?

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

One has to wonder that Arabic by definition is "Nomadic Lanugage" ... there was no concept of meditation among Nomads.

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

I concur with you Dushwari ...

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

Those verses are from the 19ers or Pervezis and their website www.submission.org…They have changed the meanings in the Quran…In the true sense, the ‘meditate’ is written as worshipping in other more authentic translations…

Stay away from them…They don’t believe in the resurrection of Isa :as: and deny that any Prophets of Allah :pbut: did any miracles and actually took out some verses from the Quran to suit their theories…

Re: Encouragement for Meditation in Quran-Sharif

dear hyperactive,
point to be noted. thanks for your denominational interjection.
thanks for your perspective.
i will get back on this, God willing.
