If your child wanted to serve, would you encourage them or discourage them? why or why not?

Desi-American moms are being more spooky day by day.
I am all in for my kids to become soldiers. What is better then serving your country?

My older friends whose kids are now graduating high school are in this dilemma. Some of them are opposed to this for what miltiary life looks like, fear of losing a son or daughter and some blantedly don't want their children serving a military whose views they don't support.

If he wants to serve his country I won't stop him. I wouldn't let my daughter join. (presuming I have kids)

I have a few friends in the military. I have family serving in the military.

When I was younger I wanted to serve as an AirForce pilot....

this is a dilemma. we live, we work here yet we don't subscribe to the founding principals of United States. Regardless of having choice or not, with Selective Service law every adult person have to register for military service, it was exercised during the WW2/Vietnam war.

In the scenario of Afghan/Iraq war the presence of American Muslim soldiers will help to protect Iraqi and Afghan civilians from abuses by other American soldiers. American soldiers are less likely to abuse Iraqi and Afghan civilians if they know that American Muslim soldiers are monitoring their behavior. if American Muslims didn't fully become part of every-thing-American, they will suffer in future. We need our presence in every corridor of power from education, health, banking, to military and to politics.

One of my clients is a Pakistani girl who is in the US Army. She totally threw me off one day...walked in wearing her fatigues and I couldn't recognize her. I asked her if her parents were okay with it, she laughed saying they were very proud. I bet you I was not the first one to ask her that question!

I couldn't imagine sending my kid off like that...maybe I am selfish.

nope, not a chance. it isn't as glam and honorable as it sounds, you are basically cannon-fodder for the selfish interests of bigots/greedy corporations. no thanks.
