It is a good stpe to bring Old clean Karachii back. Next step should be ban motor bikes and stopping banks to finance cars. Government should encourage public transport.
Yes all ground level transportation should be the TomTom Horse drawn Carriages Speed limit 15 mph, and all higher speed vehicles to be on elevated limited access roadways with Toll system!
These haphazard, adhoc exercises won’t have any lasting effects in improving the situation in Karachi. The city is suffering from population explosion. Over the past 10, 15 years, there’s been an uncontrolled, huge influx of economic migrants not only from every corner of Pakistan but from neighboring countries like Nepal, Burma etc. Almost all of 'em are unskilled/low-skilled, so only way for them to earn their living is being day laborers or street vendors. You move them from one place, they’ll go and setup at another place. Such knee jerk actions are only for media consumption. These people are also humans and they’ve to feed themselves and their families. The problem needs to be tackled at much higher, national level to try to equally distribute economic opportunities in other places as well.
