i didnt know the spellin wud change the whole meaning of the name. i really want to name my daughter enaya not inaaya but if the meanin changes with an en then i think i need to rethink. i dunno where to find an imam here in UAE....
It's Arabic, Mall, and you're in the Middle East! Just ask someone how to pronounce it and then spell the name to best fit the pronunciation. It's not an English word. There is no "right" English spelling. There are only spellings that better reflect the pronunciation.

exactly thats wot i was thinkin too but someone else here in the above 2 posts said that the spellin CHANGES the meanin so that got me confused. ure rite i can ask anyone speakin arabic to help me with the name and then they can tell me whether E or I will b appropriate. btw who did u ask there i mean in USA? I also like u think E wud sound better with the name.
I think both would be pronounced the same way. If i were you I would go for Enaya! It can be spelled either way and since you like the E spelling better, go for it!
Inaaya or Enaya is the feminie of Inayat, which means gift, blessing.

Well obviously if the spelling "Inaaya" makes you "cringe", you're hardly going to use that spelling for your daughter's name!! I don't think you're going to want to "cringe" everytime you have to spell your daughter's name!!!
You don't need anyone here telling you how to spell your daughter's name or for them to give you the "go ahead" to use a variation in spelling Inaaya....
Just for the record, yes, it depends on the pronunciation of a word to change it's meaning ....but there are always exceptions.
for example: Inaaya means gift from God BUT Inaya or Inayah means concern / solicitude. Wonder what replacing "I" with an "E" will do??!!
HOWEVER, entirely your decision... you are the mother afterall... why argue on the meaning of the name if you've already decided to go with the more "innovative" way of spelling the name???
....and, when all's said and done.... does the spelling even MATTER??!!!!! Obviously not judging by this thread!!!!

i like enaya but that dusnt mean i shouldnt b open to different ideas/thots too. its just my feelin that inaaya is v common spellin thaz all. replacin I with E is no issue, i feel the E sound is more than the I sound in the name thaz all. I didnt understand the difference between inaaya or inayah that u said. they look and sound same to me i guess. is it the h in inayah makin any difference in the meanin?? :S

Lol.... I am calm.... just stating the obvious (well to me atleast).....got a bit carried aways though, I have to admit!!! :)
No idea why the "h" or taking an "a" out changes the meaning... just what i've read on the net or books....
.....forgot to say CONGRATS in my first post.... :) No matter what the meaning of Enaya, she is still a gift from Allah....

This is something I wanted to comment on before. It's pretty common for us to look up names and their meanings online. But it's important to note the source of the information you're getting. Most of the websites I've found aren't from any reliable source, and it is rare for them to provide etymologies. The information may be incorrect (intentionally or unintentionally). There are a lot of names I liked but I just didn't go with because we just couldn't be sure of the meanng (and often we didn't know which language and so could not look it up). I wouldn't name a baby based solely on information from such sites.
Books are more reliable since at least they've been reviewed and checked somewhat.

this is precisely why i had asked u in one of my earlier posts who did u ask in USA for verification of the spelling and meaning, but u didnt answer. i hope its not personal. the reason i m askin is cus u have the experience with this name which i m lacking and i thot maybe ull b able to help me by sharing ur experience on this name issue. i m 99 percent ready to name but am only concerned that her name meaning should not b care/solicitude like others here pointed out.
.. how do we spell Enaya in urdu/arabic ? is it 'ain-noon-alif-ye-he (as in maria)'?
.. additioanlly can anyone pls advise how do we spell and pronounce 'Yusha' in urdu/arabic? my understanding is that it is pronounced as YUSHA (and not YAsha) and that THE SPELLING IS ye-sheen-ain..

I don't think the English spelling makes any difference at all. Would Saima mean something else if spelled syma or cyma? Same goes for aisha, ayesha n ayesha.
Im glad i came across this thread my niece is called "INAAYA" thts how my sister spells her name..it really just depends on how u pronounce it...my son is called AMAN and in school the teachers call him A=MAN like A MAN these english teachers just dont know how to pronounce asian names no matter how much u correct them..funny thing is if i ask my son his name his started to say A MAN too which really annoys me..sum teachers even call him AMAAN which is not his name its "AMAN"!!!!!!! Two different names...
