People are really close to their dogs here and most call them family, I agree with you that one should not risk their life to save a pet, but these are the values of this society. The kid who died was friends with my bosses daughter and he mentioned this in the meeting and no one thought it was reckless. She was a good swimmer but there was mud and reed in the pond. Just a gut wrenching incident.
