WTFFFF is wrong with these policemen and ‘undercover’ ppl. They’re dragging, pullin on lawyers clothes, and shoving 'em like animals. So much for a ‘soft image’ of the new democracy that Musharraf boasts about. All this really really sucks. i swear it hurts me to see all this going on…these morons should be punished. Now i’m for supreme court callin on these officers and suspending them, so much for that b.s. about their morality goes down. sheeeshhh..what a sham!
Re: Absurdity Continues
I will just like to add three things quickly..
Who is the terrorist.? if musharraf accuses someone terrorist then does it make him a terrorist.? Why not let the Courts hear the arguments from both side and then decide and show a little civilization?
Why killing of people extra judicially other is more important than capturing of PEACEFUL human right activists ? Why not say ANY extra judicial act is condemnable... even if it involves killing or torturing or lathi charge or illegal detaining... being happy on the killing of the innocent people of opposite sect/group/views is not the way of a true muslim
if i view that some people are spreading hate, then does it give me the right to bombard them without proving their guilt.? I say i should have a free and easy access to the court and justice, where i can go easily and without fear and show my proofs and let the other party also have an equal chance to prove otherwise and then let the court decide on merit... It is really not too much of an asking..
It sad to see that we are not JUST even in our thinking... come on people... value the life of every person as long as he/she is not proved guilty in a court...
ps. not hoping to change much thinking, look like we are too far in our hatred now on both sides... whether we accept or not.
Re: Absurdity Continues
As many have said before, it was always naive to think that this emergency had anything at all to do with terrorism or extremism.
One expects western governments to fall for anything as long as the word "terrorism" is included in the justification, one doesnt assume that other Pakistanies, who KNOW whats going on in the country, will even bother to buy the load of crap the govt was peddling. The terrorism rationale is NOT for your consumption!!. Its strictly for the western audience.
Next you'll be trying to see if Musharraf follows Lincoln's example and frees the slaves, just because he quoted Lincoln in his speech along with the terrorism talk.
The naivete of people really gets to me sometimes.
Lets be absolutely clear here: If Musharraf's presidential election's case was not being decided in the Supreme Court, there would be NO emergency today. This is all there is to this matter. Whether you're for Musharraf or against Musharraf is your prerogrative, but atleast, atleast stop beginning the discussion with such faulty premises.
Re: Absurdity Continues
Pyarigudia (nice name btw) - why does it surprise you? With so many people taking pot shots at him constantly, musharaf cannot focus on the mission to masticate the jihadis.
Musharraf needs Jeyhadsis.
What happened to Zia when Afghan war ended?
As long as Musharraf is in power, this menace will continue.
Re: Absurdity Continues
Iconoclast, I am beginning to agree with you. It is in Mushy's interest to keep the jihadis around. It was a bit humiliating today to walk into class and try to explain to a group of students (and coworkers) why lawyers and human rights activists are being arrested during a crackdown on terrorism, while the mullah who controls Swat is still running his radio broadcasts. All of which begs the question - is Musharraf's legacy that of Zia's?
The irony is that we just had a famous anti-Islam "scholar" speak here, and the muslim community has been busy trying to undo the damage - now this happens.
Re: Absurdity Continues
Amana
This is the legacy of our leaders right from the creation of Pakistan.
After the death of Muhammad Ali Jinnah the only leader of any substance Liaqat Ali was killed. And Mashallah, to this day, not even an FIR of the killing of first PM of Pakistan has been lodged. There is not even a single paper in government records about the investigation into killing of first PM. The alleged people behind the killing (as published in recent BBC report) were then Beurocrats Ghulam Muhammad, Gormani and army generals Skinadr Mirza and Ayub Khan.
All the successive governments were by default run by military and couple of beurocrats. This continued till 1971, when the Bengalis were denied right to form government resulting in division of Pakistan. An aberration of democratic rule occured for 6 years and followed by Zia ulHaq.
The Zia and Musharraf are very similar in that they both exploited US interests in the region to stay in power.
And do yourself a favour. Try not to defend Pakistan, its a lost cause. This country has no hope of getting any better.
Re: Absurdity Continues
CJ did not let anyone from Lal masjod go free.
The two judges, Nawaz Abbasi and Faqir Khokhar, who set some of them free have taken oath under the PCO and now sitting in SC.
CJ was their head.
as far as abbasi and kohkhar lettign them free, now they have been taken oath under the PCO and probably wont do stupid things like that again.
but then if we go by past, iftikhar had also taken an oath after teh coup, parr doh baad mein niklay thay when his corruption started being made public, itnay saal independent judiciary ka khayal naheen aya tha.
find better heroes, have the strength to oppose them all.
Re: Absurdity Continues
You are still looking for reasons! Even a layman in Pakistan knows why Mush imposed the martial law....merely to get rid of the CJ and avoid a Supreme Court decision ruling him ineligible for another presidential term (verdict was 3-8 against him as per some accounts)
bhai jaan, its clear to me, I was just telling to Khehkashan who seemingly thinks it is for fighting militants.... I wish you had read my posts :D

CJ does not run a mafia and hand down orders.
If judiciary was indeed a hinderance in fight against terrorrism and letting terrorrists go free then these two judges shud have been under house arrest rather than Bhagwan Das. Is bhagwan Das a terrorrist?
Re: Absurdity Continues
well whether or not he ran the supreme court like a mafia can eb debated, getting his son jobs that he was not qualified for, sounds like callign favours and then callign media ppl in his chambers and forcing them to run apologies on air seems like coercion, so did he run a mafia, seems like it.
none of these guys are clean, period. and thats where your limitatins show up, if there is a villain, there must be a hero. sorry, that is not the case.
and finally sayign what I said earlier. how many threads are on this topic, the topic was on asma jahangir. can we quit turning every thread into the same rant?
where are mods, sleeping?
Re: emergency, judiciary, terrorism
I wonder who really is ranting. I qouted ur statement and answered. I agree that CJ is not an angel, neither is Musharraf.
