Emergency food for fussy kids.

What are typical food that you can have ready in a few minutes, that you can feed your little ones when they are being super fussy.

Like you spend hours in the kitchen preparing seperate food for the kids and they refuse to eat it, so I need ideas of easy to cook or frozen food that is self-prepared, just anything that kids like.

I have thought of sending them to bed without any food but they are too small to understand and I dont want their little tummies to be empty through the night.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

For emergencies, I boil some pasta and mix it up with butter. Kids love it! I also always have frozen home made shaami kababs in the freezer, frozen pizza, and Maggi noodles!

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

depends on the age of the kid but my son is 2 and sometimes when he refuses to eat his dinner or does not eat a lot of it, I give him extra milk. I know milk is not enough but milk is one thing he usually does not say no to so it gives me some peace of mind.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

I try not to let the kids get too hungry so I keep a good provision of fruits and their favourite veggies(cucumbers, carrots etc) and yoghurts. For quick meals I have frozen shami kebabs, frozen packet prathas, omelette, cheese sandwich, fish fingers(frozen).

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

You can keep nuggets, shami kebabs. cheese veggies and make them sandwiches or just simply fry the nuggets or kebabs and serve with boiled pasta with mayo or ketchup :)

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

MAGGI NOODLES ARE SO GOOD OMG

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

fish sticks, kababs, grilled cheese sandwiches

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

when my neices and nephew were younger [they are still very picky eaters], my bhabhi used to bring frozen stuff from this store and will make whatever they liked in less than 15 min. it was great. i do still bring those entries for myself

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

Cheese slices, baby carrots, fruits (strawberries, apple, banana, orange), Maggie noodles (my daughter just loves it), Nutella sandwich (that's another thing she never says no to). If all else fails, Popeyes chicken. Kuch khaye na khaye popeyes ki chicken zaroor khani hai.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

  • Home made frozen kababs
  • Pasta + meatballs
  • Egg-Roti - I invented it some 4-5 years ago. Its basically naan coated in egg and cooked on low heat on TAVA. My daughter call it egg pizza
  • Apple / Bananas are always in our refrigerator.
  • Both of our kids love baby carrots, cucumbers and broccoli. We always try to keep plenty in fridge.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

how about some chocolates ya yummy biscuitss :chilly: i would definitely love tht as a kid :d

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

Mashed potatoes (you can add butter or cheese to it)
Grilled cheese sandwiches
Nutella on toast
Fruit yogurt
Heinz cereal bars (with fruit filling)
Pasta with sauce (the ready made kind that only needs to be heated.)
Frozen veggies (you can quickly cook them in the microwave, add salt, black pepper and some butter)
If you have naan in the freezer, you could always make a cheese pizza in a toaster oven.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

Thanks so much for such great ideas.

Some things that my kids now refuse and used to eat that was potatoes .. frozen veggie .. they just pick out the peas and the corn and say no to carrots / broccoli and other veggie unless I make a soup.

Little one doesnt like cheese, the bigger doesnt take milk.

Both dont like Nutella (thanks heaven for that!)

I used to have frozen pizza in my freezer but as trying to cut on un-healthy stuff, I try to make it fresh or get it from a restaurent near by.

Pasta and sauce is something they sometimes eat and enjoy and sometimes just refuse.

Both don't take salad items like cucumbers/carrots anymore.

I did have home made shami kebab in my freezer, need to make them again.

Thanks for ideas here, will try to use them.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

Are they old enough to help you prepare food? Sometimes that motivates the picky ones.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

Shami kabab, aloo tikki....sandwiches. You'd have to assemble the sandwich, but it's not a laborious task. How about egg? If the both eat egg, you can make an omelet...or boil it, etc.

You said they don't like cheese, but sometimes we like things if they're presented in another form. How about mac n cheese? A small paratha with salan? Tacos? Chicken nuggets, stuffed pastries, etc.

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

Some really good ideas here..i will try these myself. My little one is also a fussy eater! she can make my life hell when it comes to eating.

Breakfast:

Try coco pops or cheerios for breakfast..if you use warm milk try switching to cold milk and if you use cold milk try warm milk for a change...little things like this can make a difference.

If they only have half of this then give them some toast with dairylea cheese spread.

Follow this with grapes...cut the grapes in half they sometimes like that. As the weather is getting better why not try strawberrys too?

Lunch:

fish fingers with mash potatoes (just buy smash if you don't have time to make it from scratch) put ketchup on the plate to make it more interesting and fun for them. give them a glass with a little bit of apple juice in it...again for entertainment purposes.

or boiled mashed sweet potatoe (have you tried this?)

Follow this with yogurt....put the yogurt in a bowl and let them eat it themselves...(be warned very messy) follow with pear in finger size slices

Dinner:
instant noodles or rice cooked in the rice cooker (vegetable rice or chicken rice, or keema rice or spinich rice or channa rice etc.....)

or chicken nugget meal (with chips)

I know you guys are probably gonna kill me for saying this but put the TV on when you feed them let them watch Dora or whatever they like...this is a bribe to make them eat.

Also, if one day they don't eat well don't stress...it could be that they are teething or just not hungry.

Limit milk to no more than 3 times a day...this could be one reason they don't eat because they are full with milk.

I'm going to buy my daughter a little chair and table tonight to see if that makes her want to eat better...she doesn't like her high chair anymore! She actually fell quite badly yesterday when trying to climb out.

Come on Pakistan....you can do it!!! (cricket)

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

sparrow i totally agree with u, especially with the tv tip! i also used to do that, when my son denied eating... kabhi kabhi karna parta hai!

and MILK ist NOT a drink, its a MEAL! so u dont have to feel bad, when u give ur kid just milk before sleeping... lekin har roz to nahin, khaas taur pe bare bachon ko...

Re: Emergency food for fussy kids.

french toast. My children can eat french toast for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
