Re: Eloping
What do you think they should do?
Re: Eloping
I know of a couple of cases, but the tragic one happened 6 years ago. Girl eloped with a guy she had been in love with secretly. Family tracked them down and tried to kill them both, the guy survived, but had to go under ground due to safety. The case was pretty hyped in the media as each member involved was arrested and convicted ..

Was this in Pakistan or the West? :(

Re: Eloping
^God, that's awful.. I remember reading about this case in the papers here in the UK.. Poor girl.. may she rest in peace..
Re: Eloping
I would elope, just to visit Greta Green.
Re: Eloping
OMG, what effing jaahils. I cannot believe someone would do that. And look at all the people involved from BOTH sides of the family! Wow. RIP. I hate desi people like this who ruin it for all of the desis all over.
Re: Eloping
thats so sad:-(
I know of a sad one too. The guy and girl eloped when she turned 18, he was 24. She was the daughter of a high ranking government official, in Pakistan. So the guy kept taunting her and telling her she was untrustworthy because she eloped and blah blah...and 6 years later they divorced, and she came back home, only to find herself turned away from there as well. She then put herself through med school, became a doctor and led a successful life.

Wow, good for her. And Sara, you happen to know all the juiciest stuff. :p
Re: Eloping
it seems so....actually she was my mother's class fellow back in the 70's:-)
Re: Eloping
My mom's cousin ran away with her BF,the family went crazy as she was the only sister of 5 brothers and this happened in the early 80's,she married the guy had 3 kids, her mom died due to cancer her dad never allowed anyone from the family to meet her...the girl's husband turned out to be a wonderful human being but after 20 years of marriage, their marriage fall apart and she remarry another guy who turned out to be a really mean person.
A girl from our neighborhood in Pakistan eloped with her BF,she has 3 kids now and is living happily and the parents eventually accepted their marriage.
Re: Eloping
A close relative, recently. She spent years convincing her parents. but she being very rich, her mother wouldnt agree as her other sisters married rich as well.
she eventually eloped. family found them a week later. her dad had small ceremony and married her off with the person she eloped.
most family members have shunned her parents as they wanted them to kill both of them. and these relatives are highly educated and ironically one of them is a very religious(mullah). but she is happily married and has no contacts with her family other than sisters.
Re: Eloping
another one: distance relative. boy was wanted criminal, neighbor. mother of the girl helped him escape once from police. Late she eloped with him with the help of SIL. they divorced SIL(who claimed that she wanted to elope with that man bt couldn't as was already married). girl was only sis of 5 brothers and they were very rich as well. they hired many people to kill but were no match to wanted criminal.
few years later mother accepted daughter and started to visit her and gave gifts on the birth of child. but brothers never did.
Re: Eloping
Not always. Not agreeing with a wrong decision of your kids does not mean they should elope :nono:.
I hope if the parents disagree to their kids choice it is for a good reason and nothing stupid. And once they stick to their opinion, they should let their kid make their decision and carry on with their lives. I definately am not saying anyone at all even parents should force their decisions on their kids but if the kid is being a real jerk then they have the right to maintain their distance with them. It is perhaps not easy but i think its very important to know just how much you, even the parents, should forgive.
Re: Eloping
A classfellow of mine eloped.
No idea where she is or how she is.
Med student, and she runs off with a shopkeeper of all things who is many many years her senior. Last I heard about her , her parents were looking for her and rumor was that she was living hand to mouth since he left his job. No idea where she is.
