Eliminating HFCS and other sugars from diet.

Stoppits post has me worried a lot. I noticed that bread, cereals, chutneys, dips, cheese, mayo, ketchup everything and I mean pretty much everything has it.
Then you have fruits which doesn’t have it but they are so full of pesticides, and are genetically modified. I mean the size of cherries is ginormous not to mention seedless oranges and melons. And organic is expensive.

So what should we be eating inorder not to consume dreaded sugars? I would like to eliminate it completely.

Pls also share recipes of bread and other things you make at home. Thanks

Re: Eliminating HFCS and other sugars from diet.

  • lentils
  • grilled vegetables and meats
  • you can use many other flours
  • Eggs are a great source of protein and very filling and can made so many ways
  • I like my desi foods so I cook all types of subzis like saag, spinach, gobi and eat with whole wheat chapatis.

Buying organic is not expensive as you think. Instead of buying organic at the supermarket - try farmer's markets or fruit stands.

pretty much what your or anyones grandparents ate. its that simple.

Nj, the farmers market in my town is a lot more expensive reason is that not a whole lot grows here. :(

Re: Eliminating HFCS and other sugars from diet.

You should not be consuming these thing on regular basis anyways!
Make dip/chutneys at home and skip mayo and ketchup altogather. Choose breakfast cereal with 5 grams of fiber per serving or more and percentage of sugar calories below 30%. The first ingredient should be whole grain. For bread look for 100% whole grain and if possible get it from a local bakery instead of super market.

Bebo I get the whole grain one or 100% while wheat but it still lists sugar, glucose , fructose as its ingredients

Re: Eliminating HFCS and other sugars from diet.

Automne there are bread brands with no added sugar. And as I said, its better to buy from a local bakery than supermarket because SM brands have added preservative/sugar to increase shelf life.
Try baking your own bread. It is the only way to control what goes in your food. Also as I mentioned if sugar calories in bread/cereal per serving is below 30% than its not too bad.

I agree. make things at home. Bread, Roti etc.

Avoid "boxed" or "canned" food.

Also on the boxes - read the ingredients. Most good things should have 2-5 ingredients.
