Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

Ok, decide once and for all which is better than the other one on desi skin. i’m talking about yellow undertones, that can range from super gori to super dark.

and how do you go about picking one? and how long until hair growth slows down. pros and cons for both please.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

i got the hair laser removal done and it made a huge difference on my face. i didnt get any spots from it. my face looks more whiter now. it is a little expensive though. i have to get it done every other month and its $200 per session for the whole face. but after the first four sessions the price decreases.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

Depends on where you are getting it done.

Electrolysis is permanent. Laser isn't. Bear that in mind. Laser DOES reduce hair growth and make them thinner, but all it really does it slow it down. You will still need to get it cleaned every few months cause the hair will grow back in patches. Electrolysis is more permanent, but much more time consuming.

If you are getting laser done on your face, remember, you cannot wax. You can only shave the hair growth. Bear that in mind.

Also, if you realllllllllly want to get laser done, anywhere on you, go to someone who is experienced with desi skin tones.

On the face, I would only do electrolysis. There is a risk involved when it comes to doing laser on your face cause of the whole skin colour thing.

I've done laser on my arms, underarms, etc. and am satisified with the results. I would never do it on the face though. I'm not willing to risk it or chance the laser zapping my skin instead of the hair cause of my colouring.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

^^ so wait if you're getting electrolysis done vs. laser, then even still you're not allowed to remove hair from the roots until the session is done, right?

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

It's up to you how long you do electrolysis for. You don't have to buy sessions. It's up to you, your individual hair growth. With some people, it works fast and you only need to go once or twice. With others, you need to go for years. It all depends on your hair growth AND the settings the person uses during the electrolysis. I would advise against doing anything if you are doing electrolysis (i.e. waxing, threading) because it will defeat the whole purpose of electrolysis.

With laser, they specifically tell you that you can only shave IF you must remove the hair before your next session.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

ohh...i didn't know that. thanks =D

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

How many times have you been and how many more do you need to go?

I think Desi guys should laser their cheeks, ears and neck if they're hairy, shaving straight under the eye is not a good idea.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

i already went three times i will go atleast four more times so all of the hair will be gone.

OMG, I just used a currency converter and that's £700 GBP's altogether. I thought I'd be ideal because my skin is fair and my hair is dark but that's way too dear, I think I'll stick to getting it threaded by my sis.

Mehnaz how much does eletrolysis cost for the entire face and how many times does it have to be repeated and at what intervals?

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

^ are u not a guy ??? y wud u wnt electrolysis

I shave the beard area but some of us guys have hair on the cheeks too you know, I can't shave straight under my eyes.

Some of my friends shave their entire face, it makes their whole face rough and the stubble darkens their complexion.

Some of my other mates have beards but they have them growing all the way up their face, that's horrible, I think cheek hair should be removed, beards look sexy if they're on the jawbone, not all the way upto the eyes like Pir Pagara.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

Ms Qureshi, how long does it take to get used to sleeping with lights on? On an average, how much do you save on your electricity bill now? Do people complain when you go to watch a movie in a theater?

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

oh ok yeh i understand .

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

Hello guys,
Well laser hair removal is permanent reduction. There are different kinds of lasers, some are IPL.The best laser for ourskin is Nd:YAG laser however certain branded IPLs also are equal good.
In Pakistan there are mushrooms of chinese,Korean IPLs and these lasers are causing lot of side effects like no result, pigmentation, skin burn etc.
So one should always choose good doctor and good laser.
Please do ask following questions to any laser center
What type of laser is it?
How many sessions you need?
What side effects expected?
Is it FDA approved laser?
Italian, chinese and korean lasers are very bad for results and causing lot of complications.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

I recently spoke to a derm's assistant who gave me a price of $300 per session for the face. Does that fall under the normal price range?

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

It is expensive...look around more and you might find 150 to 200 per session.
Or some also offer a package of 12 or 10 which will save you more at the end.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

^yeah I thought it was a bit too much. Thanks. :)
Now what if I don't need 10-12 sessions? She said it would be around 6-7 every 6 weeks????

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

Depending on skin type you will find out after first session how it is working out. you might just need 6-7 session....also some people like to leave 1 or 2 sessions for later when they need to do touch ups after whole procedure is done...perhaps after 6 months or a year.

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

^Have you gotten it done yourself?
If yes what has your experience been like?

Re: Electrolysis vs. Laser Hair Removal

yes I have, but not on the face.
Process is very slow and it may take many sessions. Make sure to complete all sessions on time otherwise hair start to come back. You can use strong laser like LightSheer diode on your body, but for the face I would be very careful and get it from a professional becuz these can burn your skin.
