Lately, i am thinking about switching from my computer field to electro-mechcanical engineering(robotics). I have earned my mcse, a+, cna, and ccna, but the my salary rate seems to be stuck at$55k; evertime i go for job interviews in toronto, 30 ppl are already there applyin who have degrees and over qualified. I am thinking about switching over to robotics, any suggestions? Is there outlook for this field in saudia arabia or pakistan?
Furqan,
when you say you wanna switch over… are you currently enrolled in a degree program at Univ. ? if so, is it CENG or CSC?
On the professional certifications side, it would be a good match with a CSC background or even an Info-Sys concentration in business sounds appealing.
Have you looked at the I.T. program offered at York and Ryerson? These degree programs tend to be more hands-on then the counterpart CSC programs.
Personally, I am a Comp Sci grad from U of T, currently in my final year of the M.B.A at McMaster, and on the certification side, I have my MCP, MCT, CCNA, SunCSA, SunCNA, Novell e-Business, IBM e-Business, and a bunch of Linux certs.
You are right though… if you do want to excel your career and move beyond systems/network support roles into management oriented positions, companies do seek individuals who have a formal University eductation… I have personally seen people with a couple of certifications and a degree in History doing well for themselves in I.T. May I also add that just based on those certifications that you’ve mentioned, your salary rate is very reasonable… I would’ve put you anywhere in the 48K - 58K range.
electro-mechanical engineering == Mechatronics
I am doing the same...will reply in detail later when I get a bit of time.
who==me bhai i am still waiting....
