Electricity crisis and impact on environment

We know that the country is going through severe electricity crisis for the past 7 years. Have we ever given a thought this might be having on our environment. E.g. In markets one can easily feel the heat being generated by the generators. Now consider the impact thousands of generators on our environment.

While one needs to appreciate PMLN in trying to alleviate the power crisis by beginning work on coal based power plants. But have they really given a thought to the environmental aspects of starting these power plants in population areas (like sahiwal and jhang)?

Re: Electricity crisis and impact on environment

Regarding coal plants, Dr. Samar Mubarakmand said in a detailed talk once on how his team has made preparations to tackle this issue. Thar coal is a weaker form of coal, and does not hold the same combustion value as that used by other countries, or the coal that they are going to import from Australia for the new coal plants they are talking about. But Thar coal's flue gas will be re-harvested to produce liquefied diesel, and once that process is complete, the impact of the remaining flue gases will be minimal on the environment.

Other than that, yes, generators in use in Pakistan have changed the entire atmosphere of the country, it seems. There is no regulation in place for them, but then again, I guess govt is not in a position to regulate them, considering that they cant provide electricity to consumers

Re: Electricity crisis and impact on environment

electricity generation is the need of the hour. environment comes second.
