Electric shock.

Okay so i know this is stupid but funny nevertheless. & i wonder what the heck is wrong with me.

Every winter i get real big electric shocks almost every time i touch the metal…the bigger the metal the harder the electric shock…almost as hard as one would get by touching the live wire.

like door handles, car, window etc etc.

SO the two question.

  1. Why?
  2. How to avoid? (apart from touching things with gloves etc)

PS: & no i m not turning into a spider man :silly:

:bravo:

Re: Electric shock.

  1. Put lotion onnnnn! :)

Re: Electric shock.

i hate that too!!!

Re: Electric shock.

use full hand to touch metal (ie, doors handle etc.)

when you touch something with your fingers the static electricity is directed to one point, (your finger) make the area of contact bigger by using full hand or palm of your hand. the shock will be less intense.

Re: Electric shock.

lol..reminds me of office space when the guy gets a shock going into the office everytime.

but for you puttar teri tay fitting hee kharab ay.

Re: Electric shock.

but why oh me why me who gets so intense shock ? why not anyone else?.. m i not a good conductor ? :silly:

:bravo:

Re: Electric shock.

install 2 bulbs in the place of ur eyes… :silly:

Re: Electric shock.

my office mates have the same problem too.. they keep 'eletrocuting' ppl around for fun :-p
but i guess wat jassoos sb. mentioned is a good suggestion

Re: Electric shock.

happened to me a lot, it stopped after i start wearing cotton socks.

To prevent put some water in a bowl and place it near the heater or near the window to add water vapor to the air or simply buy a humidifier.

more over search goole for "Static Shocks"

Re: Electric shock.

Speaking from first hand experience: Carry around a key, preferrably one that isn't enclosed in rubber or a keychain. Before touching metal surfaces with your hand, touch the key to them first. When you touch them with your hand then, you won't get shocked.

Re: Electric shock.

^ Yea i heard that too. I think ur supposed to touch something metal before or something like that. I duno! :)

Re: Electric shock.

I do the same.. or just kick the door open

no seriously this one works great..

Re: Electric shock.

yeah.. i had the same problem when i was in NY.. :bummer: overe here i never had that problem.. but when i was in NY.. every damn thing gave me a shock.. once i knew im gonna have a shock.. so i thouched ma bro’s nose.. n got the shock on his nose.. damn.. :hehe:

Re: Electric shock.

when there is no moisture in the air ..then there is less resistance so the the electrons flow better. try getting a humidifer for ur office/home, adding moisture in the air can reduce the chances of getting electrical shocks. Wetting ur hands can help also.. :)

Re: Electric shock.

JohnyBr,

Be extremely careful when filling gas in your car.

I have heard people getting their cars on fire due to static electricity. Use one of the suggestions mentioned in this thread whenever you fill gas in your car during winter times.

I have this issue as well and its pretty intense.

Re: Electric shock.

your shoes may be the problem...something to do with shoes and static in the carpet

Re: Electric shock.

no miz daisy, jony is jut electrifying,

Re: Electric shock.

Use Static-Guard !

Re: Electric shock.

Jony br, it is simple physics. During winter the humidity is low, so less water vapor, and hence less conductivity to dissipate the charges that have accumulated in your body from this one action: walking. Charges build up in your body from two places when you walk. Brushing against dry winter air, and friction between your rubber soles on the carpet. How you walk also makes a difference as to how much charges you will build up. A man who walks like he is tip-toeing will hardly pick up any.

If you are wearing rubber shoes, just before you touch a metallic object, "earth" yourself, meaning, touch the ground and dissipate the charges to make the potential difference (voltage) zero.

Re: Electric shock.

haha He will look like a hindu, touching the ground by his car every time!
