I think there should be a Presidential style democracy in Pakistan. That’s the only way to break free from the curse of baradari voting. Instead of electing the local goons and thieves, the entire nation should decide who they want their national leader to be.
As per my info, India has 64% E-Voting. Why can’t Pakistan do that?
This is one of the reasons that PTI will not have opposition leader. This was the first thing they were gonna do (forward an electoral reforms bill).
As a nation we need to improve democracy and to improve democracy we need to improve transparency. But this will be a long struggle to make it happen. I expect PTI to push for KPK local bodies elections on new electoral reforms.
Why is it necessary to hold polls on one day in the whole country. Why cant we do it in little parts of Pakistan and have it going on for 1-2 weeks. This way we would require less equipment and staff. And it will help provide adequate security and help on each polling station. Taking care of things in smaller chunks would definitely help.
Because the polls are, for the lack of a better word, dhakoslay.
What kind of an election are these where even one guy who was standing in the lines at closing time could not cast his vote (for the next 5 years), just because it’s closing time. For a country this large, they should have a longer closing time, start early at 6 am, and finish up at 8 pm, if not full day.
But they probably hold it across the whole country in one day so as the polling is not influenced if the results leak out in some places. Maybe if PTI is winning majority in Punjab and KPK, everyone in Karachi starts voting for PTI, instead of MQM, eh?
