The elections are over; those whom people didn’t want weren’t elected. Though I’m not sure if those elected are exactly who people wanted either. But that’s that when we have sham democrats calling for sham democracy.
For the excited and misdirected Musharraf bashers at large, the next step ought to be a convenient and quick exit by the President Commando Gunner General (unfortunately now retired) Pervez Musharraf, most of whose guns seem to have waterlogged during 2007.
A third step desired towards the certain misconceived road to Camelot is the restoration of the so called judiciary, which happens to be a mere few judges! To follow this blissful move shall be the long-awaited, much hailed and over glorified Utopian concept addressed as ‘return to democracy’.
Will the results, events, outcomes, fruits and good fortune that is expected to flow out of this sequence actually ever deliver? Will this work? By the hands of which messiah exactly and how? In all major decisions, inferences are studied. In this major decision that the nation took on 18 Feb 2008 of awarding the nation back into the hands of the tried, tested criminals, murderers and fraudsters, merely out of targeted and mistaken hatred and dislike for Musharraf, was the feasibility of giving the older devils a free hand on Pakistan yet again after snatching it from the allegedly inept Musharraf ever considered!? What is the probability of PPP and PMLN leaderships’ having learned any real lessons and improving their ways for the good of Pakistan and actually doing anything at all better than the loved-yesterday hated-today Musharraf!?
Given all Musharraf’s failings, had the nation voted in or supported some cleaner, newer figures; whoever they may have been, but anyone other than Nawaz, Zaradari and their respective attachment brigades, the urge for a change, democracy, people’s representation and so on would have carried weight. In doing what the nation has done in not learning the lesson self and foolishly vesting massive confidence in hope of the politicians’ having learned lessons, the nation has blundered.
Maybe the lack of choice is to blame? But that’s where inference comes in handy and one sticks with a less risky option. If held hostage today, what wisdom dictates running back to the other goon who ravaged you day before yesterday!?
Out of the frying pan and into the fire has been many a desperate soul’s escape strategy. Out of the frying pan and up into a deep fryer echoes irrationality at best.
