Election troublemakers will be shot on sight: President Pervez Musharraf

Election troublemakers will be shot on sight, says Musharraf
Tuesday, January 15, 2008

KARACHI: President Pervez Musharraf said on Monday that he had told security forces to shoot anyone who tried to disrupt the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“Any one who will create trouble, I have ordered the army and Rangers, that we will shoot any one who will do anything of this sort,” the president said while speaking at the inauguration of Pakistan Steel flyover and Bin Qasim Industrial Park projects in Karachi.

The president said increasing terrorism incidents had “broken the country’s backbone” but the government would cope with terrorism effectively. Militants would not be allowed to take over Pakistan, he said.

He said he would want the government formed after the February elections to continue his economic policies.

The president said the wheat flour crisis would end in a few days. Essential commodities were cheaper in Pakistan than in other countries, he said.

Addressing employees of Pakistan Steel Mills, he said smuggling and hoarding, and not export of wheat, had caused the crisis.

In a meeting with members of caretaker Sindh cabinet at the Chief Minister’s House on Monday, he told the caretaker government to take note of the wheat flour crisis and ensure availability of flour at fair rates.

National consensus govt: President Musharraf ruled out the possibility of the postponement of the elections and asked the interim cabinet not to pay heed to rumours of the creation of a national consensus government.

“There is no need of any national government,” he said. The caretaker governments have the capability to hold free and fair, he added.

Benazir’s assassination: He said former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination was a great loss for Sindh and Pakistan. “I personally feel dejected on her Shahadat (martyrdom),” he said. The government, he said, would do all it could to bring her assassins to justice. He condemned the riots following her killing. agencies

Re: Election troublemakers will be shot on sight: President Pervez Musharraf

I'm afraid of what this could lead too... many innocent people who are going to just try and vote might get killed for no reason. :(

Re: Election troublemakers will be shot on sight: President Pervez Musharraf

Don't be so hopeless. Mr. President has clearly set the rules, land of the law shall be enforced, anarchists will be shot dead, and all that other emotional, rhetoric jazz that comes with it!

No worries! :)
