The software is ready and ECP has issued a tentative proposal to conduct overseas polling 3 days prior to polls in Pakistan. But in all honesty, I dont think it will materialize. Setting up polling stations will require local permissions in all countries. Our embassies are simply not equipped to handle hundreds of thousands of voters. Our embassy in Dubai cannot even take more than 400 applications for passports in a single day.
This proposal had been on the table for months, and they could have materialized it easily, but it was not in PPP and PML-Ns interest, hence no progress was made. Now with just 1 month to go, I doubt it they can succeed, though I truly hope for it.
