Election 2002 Rigged says Mush Ally

I wish I could say I am surprised by these comments, unfortunately we have gone from one sham democracy (Nawaz Sharif) to another one (Mush-Jamali)…it’s a shame really.

Ally stuns govt with allegation of rigging in 2002 polls

An outspoken ally stunned the government on Friday as he attacked its vows about transparency by telling the National Assembly that he had traced 40,000 bogus votes in one constituency where he had lost in the last elections.

Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) chief Mohammad Tahirul Qadri said it took him 10 months to find the allegedly bogus entries in the NA-89 constituency of Jhang in the Punjab province through a computerized exercise and promised to resign his seat in the National Assembly if he were proved wrong.

**Mian Riaz Pirzada (Punjab) from former president Farooq Khan Leghari’s National Alliance, supported Dr Qadri’s demand for an inquiry and said he had also been a victim of similar manipulations. **

Right. You trust a pakistani politicians? You cant be serious. Secondly how did he track the votes? Voting is ambigious. There are no names. Only registered voters, which in pakistan dont really exist.

I want to see the methodology of his investigation before i believe any of this crap. You can only conduct such rigious and detailed investigations in a western highly developed society where every bit of information is available.

Not in pakistan when there is no real storage of data regarding past elections.

Cm bud there have been several detailed reports on rigging in Pakistani elections. I used to have the report by one group on the 1977 and 1990 elections rigging. At the same time two of Pakistans best newspapers (who were instrumental in exposing corruption in most of Pakistans top leaders) Newsline and Herald covered rigging in the 2002 elections extensively.

These comments are particularly strong because both politicians mentioned are supporters of the present government.

:hehe: Exactly, especially one who has been just denied a cabinet slot that he has been hankering for so long. Sour grapes. All losers claim “rigging” when they don’t get what they want, such a typical feature of Pakistani politicians.

Amusing thread none the less.

Lol..do tell what would satisfy you as evidence of rigging :) a written statement by Musharraf saying I did it?

Facts - Losers have claimed “rigging” to date, or those who have lost out on cabinet slots like your erstwhile hero Qadri, whom you were probably condemning for supporting the government not too long I’m sure? But I am sure those election results that suit your argument, you will quote, and those that don’t you will say “rigged”. :hehe:

Ofcourse, they were rigged, no doubt about that.

Unfortunately your support for Musharraf first and his flip flops on issues is pretty unconditional so no body of evidence or peoples comments would convince you other wise  : still in the hope of reaching out to the broader audience lets go through a few links :

  3. NEWSLINE: How to Steal an election

  4. Zia Mian: There are reports of unprecedented arm-twisting by the military and the intelligence agencies like Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI.

  5. EU said the Pakistani authorities’ interference with the electoral arrangements and democratic process had resulted in serious flaws in the electoral process.

Proves nothing of course, as the other side can do exactly the same.

P.S. I hope you will no longer be using selective election results to “support” your arguments in future?

somehow, i didnt see malik73 require any sort of conclusive evidence when doing the kathak moves on elections in the indian state of jammu and kashmir. no sore loser comments either. the hypocrisy just boggles the simple mind.

I am shocked ..none of those links are detailed defences of the charges made. One is a state department offical rather than an official report, and considering Mushy is Dubyas chamcha to expect direct critciism from senior Bush government officials is ridiculous. The EU report which is available online has outlined several incidents of outright rigging.

Elections enhancing democracy by the Japanese government is merely a press statement saying the obvious.

Many of those links I provided are references to both Pakistani and non Pakistani organisations, none with a political axe to grind or with the bias of Bush officials only interested in catching OBL :)

Yes, I know you are a great fan of Asma Jehangir. ;)

Btw, remember this cosy photo after those "rigged" elections. Mr Makhdoom even had to apologise for the outbursts of his foreign-based chief for her outbursts after the elections.
