Do you encourage your children to call their elder siblings baji/appa/bhai etc?
Re: Elder siblings
I will, inshAllah.
My brothers call my appa, eventho I am only a year older than one of them. I like the connection it gives us.
Re: Elder siblings
If I have more kids,I'd want them to call their elder siblings that...Inshallah.
My sisters and cousins (who all happen to be younger than me) call me baji...:)
Re: Elder siblings
we do and i like it and will definitely be continuing it with the next gen. i've seen young kids calling aunts and uncles by their first names and it always seems weird to me- i don't like it :/
Re: Elder siblings
I do not - they are only 20 months apart.
My little sister never called me "appa" until she hit high school (we are only 2 years apart) and one day she thought it was cool and it just stuck from then onwards.
Re: Elder siblings
i will definitly do this, infact i already do it when talking to my daughter and refering to my son, i will say things like "Bhai is doing this " i want them to have a sense of respect for each other.
and since she was born my son has called her behna (sister)
Re: Elder siblings
My 'back home' cousins and family do but my family over here doesn't.. none of them.. No-one here calls me appa and I call some of my younger aunties by just their names..
I think I prefer being more informal..
Re: Elder siblings
no one call me anything...:(
Re: Elder siblings
I never called my brother bhai....and I was never really encouraged to call anyone else bhai or baji either....I like being called baji/bhabi etc...i would want my kids to do it..
Re: Elder siblings
i dnt have siblings
so no one calls me aapa ![]()
Re: Elder siblings
Only my brother calls me aapi and I love it.... I'll definitely encourage my younger ones to do so :)
Re: Elder siblings
I thought it was cute when I heard my bhabi-to-be call me "Appa" :D
Re: Elder siblings
Yes I will Inshallah, cause it instills the value of respect for elders!
