If I recall correctly al jazeera was a darling of US because it took a very open stance towards all sorts of issues in the middle east, many times speaking against the policies of teh govts. It was a thorn in the side of the monarchies and was considered a fresh unbaised outside voice. How the times have changed.

I'm curious to know... what is broadcast in the U.S. on mainstream networks that has decent news? BBC? I mean... as far as I'm concerned CNN is far superior then FOX and BBC is superior to CNN... is there a step up (that is available on most dish networks???) CNN does have a good "world news" segment that comes on- news broadcast from Pakistan/India/etc...

al-jazeera is a world news broadcast - just like any other news channei am so glad that it is operating in english. i have heard its correspondent, Aymmon Mohyeldin (at a recent talk whichi went to on the topic of "Islam and US in the Eyes of the Media"), that it has challenges as the paranoid west happens to take al-jazeera for al-quaida!!
muslims ideally should promote the channel. non-muslims will witness what is the difference between impartial news service, & the deceiving puppet, ploying news fabrication services which they have been made to believe.
if nothing else, it will induce self accountability on the absolute sell-out failing pro-West news media orgs at home in the US- cnn, nbc, cbc, & fox.

Well, so far aljazeera english has not been too impressive. Lets hope they improve with time.
