India fielding star Solkar dies
Former India all-rounder Eknath Solkar, known for his close-in fielding, has died aged 57, after a heart attack.
Solkar, who played 27 Tests in the late 1960s and early '70s, gave valuable support to the spin quartet of the era.
Bishan Bedi, Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrashekhar and Srinivas Venkatraghavan regularly had Solkar fielding at short leg.
In all he took 53 catches in seven Tests but also hit 1,068 runs and took 27 wickets with his seam bowling.
Two of his most famous catches came at The Oval against England in 1971, helping India to their first Test match win in England, which also saw them take the series.
Solkar had been unwell for sometime, suffering from diabetes, and died in Mumbai (Bombay).
