-Do you do the qurbani at your places/community centres ?
-Do you have huge Family Lunch/breakfasts on this Eid too (because here in Pakistan everyone is mostly busy at their homes with the qurbani and what I see is having parties on Day 2 most of the time since Day 1 goes with sacrifice and distributing the meat)
-What preps are done in advance in your household ? What do you usually cook ?
When do ladies get to dress up since it is kitchen-time most of the day ?
Yes qurbani is done at in-laws in another city and we travel a day before eid usually and men go for the bakra-shopping late night ; my husband is the main qasaaii for all bakray of family and I like to see the whole zibah honay ka process with my boys who are equally excited with their butter knives to help cutting the meat with their dad and his cousins
-We have breakfasts at mil’s place after the men return from Eid namaz and fatiha at their family graveyard and then all the men+kids go to his uncle’s place. All the goats/sheep are bought separately but kept and sacrificed at his uncle’s house and this has been a tradition since decades in their family. There is a combined family lunch of about 30+ people. Husband’s chachi and her dils cook the main dish ( kaleji fry and achari mutton+ pulao)and others (me and other ladies from extended family) make the salads (kachumar salad) ,chutneys (imli/date and the green chutney),dessert (which is always besan ka halwa)and arrange for drinks and cutlery, etc
I place my qurbani order through our local halal meat store and donate most of it…no kitchen ka kaam here
As far as the rest of Eid day, it’s the same tradition we’ve been doing for the past 30+ years lol…naashta at my nani’s house after namaz, and then dinner at my khala’s house. We have a few family members who go to outlying farms to do the qurbani themselves, so it’s more of a casual, come and go as you can type day.
Qurbani kee eid sahih to Pakistan main hai. And coz last year I was at hajj so this year im missing all that time. We were in Medina these days so I have all flashbacks mostly.
Pakistan main to Eid ul azha used to be very busy. Before shaadi Chacha/phopo used to come to our house. Chacha’s family used to come night before eid and lunch was at our place. Lunch was always very late because sab ney kaleji waghaira and qurbani ka gosht khana hota thaa. 2nd day we used to go there They live in same house ooper neeechay kay portions and then raat ko to mamu jab tak he was in Pakistan. Phr shaadi key baad my ami started keeping lunch at 2nd day although qurbani was done at day 1 and that was coz of me as in pakistan first day of eid is with in laws always. However at in laws home very less any dawat waghaira occured as husband being doctor was usually at duty and 2nd day he was off so ami had a valid reason. Initial 5 yrs my choti nand was not married and if bari nand has come from Karachi then kuch na kuch waisey plan hota thaa. There was only 2nd day fixed for ami. First day was planned as per circumstance.
And here in Australia it will be my 4th eid in fact 3rd as last time I was on hajj. No hassale of gosht. As my husband gives money to an authentic ulema based muslim agency that slaughter and send meat to poor back in somalia, pakistan etc. First eid we were invited at a bangladeshi family’s home, 2nd eid I had dinner at my place 1st day and 2nd day invited somewhere. This eid we are planning one dish insha’Allah so hopefully no hassale. We women were keen for bar b q but our men may not be interested so lets see
My mom likes to have qurbaani locally, I prefer to try to do something online to distribute where its needed.
So usually the meat guy delivers the meat mid day and then mom argues with my husband and brother to have them distribute it.
They eventually go - but only after she slaps them out of the food coma she put them in because our Eid menu usually remains the same.
We have bun kabab burgers in the morning after namaz, there are aways channai puri types of situations and even dhar barai which we tend to each throughout the day - then the meat distribution and comings and goings of neigbhors and finally at night
mom makes pulao which my dad keeps sneaking botis from the yakhni. I think my dad would sell one of us for a plate of goat pulao.
