To all welwishers
SACRIFICE IS AT THE HEART OF all RELIGIONS.Many synics sneer at the
animals suffering for mans sacrifice. But God being the beneficient &
mercifull to his human, changed the intention of offering the utmost
prized possession of IBRAHIM,anglicised ABRAHAM,his only son Ismael or
michael (anglicized)just at the last moment into a lamb. This was test of
Allah for humans ,& was not a cruel god asking for the most dear
posession for his sacrifice .It combines both intensity of degree of
devotion to be able to bear sacrifice of ones dearest son ,yet happy
ending that god made it easy & possible by symbolically accepting the
lesser painful offer of lamb or other equivalent animal.INSTEAD OF YOUR
SON!!
BTW we subscribe to the view that, humans are the highest on food
chain, human survival takes precedence over animals ,who are gifts from
god for man & not equal to human.
i do support PETA ,SPCA ,& believe it you can be humane & non vegeterian
!
Qurbaani
It is an important ibaadah (worship), and is from among the Sha’aair
(symbols) of Islaam. It is not a custom of 'Eid or a source of
merry-making and gaiety; but it is a shar’ee (religious) command to
renew the commemoration of the Sunnah of Ibraaheem alayhis Salaam and
create the spirit and desire of selflessness and sacrifice.
The Qur’aan says:
It is neither their flesh nor their blood, that reaches Allah; it is
your piety that reaches him. (22: 37)
Thus, the actual purpose of Qurbaani is to create piety, devotion and a
desire for obedience and submission in a human.
Mas’alah: Qurbaani’ cannot be offered in the name of anyone besides
Allah. It is stated in the Qur’aan:
Lo! My Salaat and my Sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah,
Lord of the worlds. (6:162)

“Eid Prayers”
from, Khutbah al Masjid
by, Ahmad H Sakr
Dear Muslims: Assalam alaikum! I wish to present some introductory
remarks about the two festivities in Islam, namely: Eidul Fitr and
Eidul Adha. Allah, the Almighty tells us in the Quran about Eidul
Fitr in Surah Al Baqarah that we should gratify Him:
`…And (He desires) that you should complete the period, and that you
should magnify Allah for having guided you, and that perchance you
may be thankful’
[Surah Al Baqarah (2): 185]
Allah the Almighty also tells us in the Quran in Surah Al Hajj about
Eidul Adha that we should remember Him in these days of festivity:
`That they may witness things that are of benefit to them, and
mention the Name of Allah on appointed days over the beast of cattle
that He had bestowed upon them…’
[Surah Al Hajj (22): 28]
Dear Muslims: The gratification (takbeer) for Eidul Fitr starts at
sunset the day before Eid and ends with the Salat (prayer) of Eid
However, for Eidul Adha, it ends up after Asr Salat for the fourth
day of the Eid. The minimum approved text of the takbeers is as
follows:
“Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, La ilaha ilul-la. Allahu
akbr, Allahu akbr wa lil-la hill hamd”
(Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest.
There is no diety except Allah. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the
Greatest. And, all praise is to Allah.)
Salat of the two Eids is a confirmed tradition of the Prophet. It is
called Sunnah Muakkadeh, or Wajib (obligatory). It is a duty upon
every Muslim, male or female to pray Eid Salat. It is to be prayed
outside the mosque i.e. in the open air (falat or musalla). Those
ladies who cannot pray are to attend the happiness of the occasion.
Eidul fitr should be prayed on the first of Shawwal after the fasting
of the month of Ramadan. On the other hand, Eidul Adha should be
prayed on the tenth of Zul Hijjah after the day of Arafah. The timing
of the Salat is as follows: Eidul Fitr’s time starts when the sun
rises a distance above the horizon, equals twice the length of a
lance or a spear; but for Eidul Adha, it would be equal its length.
It is understood that one has to pray Eidul Fitr late in order that
everyone will be able to have time to pay Zakatul Fitr before Eid
Salat. However, in Eidul Adha, one has to pray early so that he will
be able to go early after Salat and sacrifice an animal for the love
of Allah. The Salat time of both Eids extends till the noon hour.
Dear Muslims: Anyone who did not pay his Zakatul Fitr, his fasting
will stay between earth and heaven. It will not go further till he
pays that money. Whoever pays Zakatul Fitr later, it will be counted
as regular charity, but not the obligatory one. However, for Eidul
Adha, there is no Zakatul Fitr, but one is to sacrifice an animal and
give part of it away to the needy and to neighbors and friends.
The Salat is to be performed first followed by the Khutbah, contrary
to the usual Friday Salat. For those who come late, they are to
perform their Salat collectively without a second khutbah. Those who
miss the Eid Salat are to perform their Salat at home in a Jamaat or
individually, if there is no Jamaat.
Eid Salat is composed of two Rakaat: the first Rakaah is preceded by
seven Takbeers, while the second is preceded by five Takbeers. All
schools of though are in agreement about this procedure except Imam
Abu Hanifa who says that one has to say Takbeer three times in each
Rakaah. The Takbeer in the first Rakaah according to him is to be
before starting, while in the second Rakaah, it will be after
finishing the recitation of the Quran. It has been stated that even
if a person did not say the Takbeer, his Salat will continue to be
valid. One may or may not raise his hands, while saying the Takbeers.
One may say nothing in between the Takbeers, or he may say the
following:
`Subhanallah, wa alhamdu lil0la, wa la ilaha ilul-la, wa Allahu akbr.’
(Glory be to Allah. Praise be to Allah. There is no deity except
Allah. And, Allah is the greatest).
Dear Believers: There is no Azan or Iqamah for the Salat. There is no
Salat Sunnah or Nafl before or after the Eid Salat. The intention
(Niyyah) for the Salat of the Eid is:
“I intend to pray two Rakaat Sunnah of Eidul Fitr (or Adha) in a
Jamaat following the Imam to Allah the Almighty and the Exalted, and
facing the respected Kaabah. Allah is the Greatest.”
As far as the Khutbah (sermon) is concerned, it is composed of two
parts, the same as that of the Friday Khutbah. There is no need for
special takbeer at the beginning, but one may use takbeer throughout
the khutbah itself.
Muslims are not obliged to sit and listen to the Khutbah. However,
the Prophet and his companions gave khutbah after Salat of the Eids.
Listening to the khutbah is a matter of worship and silence is a
must. One companion had to make khutbah before Salat so as to make
sure that the congregating Muslims will sit and listen to it.
After the khutbah and the dua are given, the Salat of Eid is over.
Muslims are to congratulate one another, to pray for the best for one
another, and to pray for the best for all Muslims all over the world.
Muslims are to visit one another, to exchange gifts, especially for
the children. The Eids are days of happiness, enjoyment, rejoicing
and forgiveness. In this respect the Prophet Muhammad, upon whom be
peace, said about Eidul Adha:
`The days of Tashriq are days of eating, drinking and remembrance of
Allah, the Powerful and the Majestic’
[Narrated by Nubaisha, and reported by Ahmad and Muslim]
During the days of the two Eids, there is no fasting whether the
recommended or for the missing of the obligator ones.
We hope and pray that Muslims will make use of these noble and sacred
occasions that come only twice a year. We pray to Allah to keep us on
the straight path and help us live as Muslims and die as Mumins
(believers).
Ameen.
