Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

Now we’re talking!!! We gotta put a stop to making Eid look so dull and Boring especially in the west. I know in Middle East Eid trully is a festive festive season. All the sales! The minature amusement parks, the beach. Ahh!!! Its fun in Pakistan too, if u’ve got family there :bummer:

GuppiesWhat started off as a joke, has lead to some serious discussion (I can hope right). What I meant is that, our grandparents and our parents did alot for us. Investing so much energy into making Eid so full of fun and giving us those beautiful memories, that we’ll talk about until the last breath of our lives. Alhumdulilah for that!
Now that most of us are in the age when we don’t have our old fashioned folks around us. Some pass away too soon, others simply aren’t around close enuf:bummer: My mum-in-law (may Allah bless her sould and rest her in peace) just the last bakra-eid made a great big deal of buying a big fat, white dumba for my toddler. Though she had no clue, and my spouse was more giddy by seeing the dunba (after spending most of his life in the west), still there was excitement in the house. that OH MY GOD, we have a lamb. We gladly tied it to a water pipe pole near our swimming pool numa pond in lahore (which wasn’t a good idea). It makes me sad to think that only she (M-i-l) was the one who cared enough about keeping the tradition alive. She’s gone now, to me it seems like the life out of that city is gone! Even if someone else tries to do what she did for my kid, will never be the same:bummer: hie na? excuse me for being all emotional and getting off track…

…so getting back to the topic.

Here in the west my family tries their best to make the Eid as special. Giving gifts to the children, having a ‘get together’ the entire day, games, music, the kids decorating the house with chamkilay desi decor etc. The guys are forced to take a day off! The morning nimaz is so much fun, especially when u get stuck in traffic, with babajan all cursing and fumming (though its usually bro that drives). While we laugh asking him, to relax and calm down since its eid!
My 2.5 yr old had her very first eid in Canada this Nov. Every time she passes by the closet seeing her eid outfit, she insists: lets go to Eid!

Being here in the west, or even in east, I’ve noticed that my generation is not all THAT much into the spirit of Eid. Why? God knows! Perhaps too depressed! Too stressed to let a smile come on their own face. We’ve forgotten how to be young. How to be trully happy. (well yeah I’m all that and so many others I know are the same). Do we really make the effort to make EID a special occassion for our little ones anymore? May it be our own kids, paroosi kay kids, nieces, nehphews, friends who ever the little kids are. Do we take the time out to think to give them those beautiful memories like we have been blessed with from our childhood? Is it fair to depreive them of it? If yes, then we shouldn’t blame them being more happy at the festive seasons of other cultures. Some parents even think its harmless, or even COOL that their kids appreciate the holidays of the west:grumpy: Now where’s the end to this non-sense? sigh

Ok bub bye for now!

**db too depressed **

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

lol that too a pine tree. Trust me, we’d spare u the torture  But u know what, instead of pine, we should go all traditional, and have a ‘dates or palm tree’ for our eid tree!

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

^^

^^

Ditto! With a chand tara on forehead! and one on that that fat bopping up and down, here and there behind of the dunba too!

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

:nono1: We don’t do Ram on Eid. Astaghfirullah! That mountain Goat is too dangerous!

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

haha, funny thread, I like the idea of having a palm trea, though it would be haram since we would be copying religious tradition from other faiths.

My children had a X-mas dinner this evening. The school was decorated very beautifully. I love it when it's dark and there are all these beautiful coloured lights and candles.

I always try to make sure that Eid is more pretty and fun for my children. Someone made some important comments about how we should do something special for our children too for Eid and I couldn't agree more.

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

Really? Do you know that a lot of our rituals are from pagan origin, like walking around in circles around the Ka’aba? So its okay to borrow from idol-worshippers, but not from God-fearing Christians?

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

why follow ??

There isnt anything pagan about the tawaaf btw :)

and anyways if u wana decorate , go right ahead , just dont start turning eyed in to a christmas imitation u know.

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

no behnsa on top of tree :nono:

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

How ignorant!!!

Islam is from God, not borrowed from anyone.

You are the victim of anti-Islam hate website propoganda run by non-Muslim missionaries.

Islam in it’s current form wasn’t the first Islam, Allah revealed Islam to lots of Prophets and Messengers before Muhammad :saw: but those Islams were only meant for the respective nation of the particular Prophet who was sent with it, each nation was sent their own Prophet. A bit like windows operating systems, 95, 98, 2000, XP.

Abraham had two sons, the eldest Ishmael was the father and also the Prophet of the Arabs and his younger brother Isaac was the father and Prophet of the Israelis. The original pre-Muhammed :saw: Arabs were Muslims, they were monotheists and believed in the God of their forefathers Abraham and Ishmael but later they became Polythiests, when they would visit far off lands and see the ways of the Pagans and others they started adopting their ways, small things lead to big ones untill they started bringing back home idols from abroad and putting them in the Sacred Temple of God (Ka’abah) which was built by Abraham and Ishmael for the worship of Allah/Jehovah/God and none other, they invented from themselves and said such and such an idol is God’s daughter and such a one his son, they kept God as their primary deity but the idols they imported and made were also venetrated and they said these are our intercessprs with God, we’ll pray to these and they will request on our behalf (a bit like how the Christians have invented the Trinity or how certain heretic breakoff’s of Islam say their Imams are incarnations of God or Saint worship). Despite adopting polytheism and becoming Pagan and far from the religion of their forefathers they kept somethings from the religion of their forefathers such as still revering the Holy Ka’abah as a sacred site and making pilgrimage to it, keeping God as the main deity and some of the rituals and traditions such as circumblating around the Ka’abah.

Getting to the point, there are similarities because the original religion of their forefathers was from the same God as ours, not because we copied them, and the differences are either because of the things they invented (e.g. polytheism) or because God intended certain details to be different (e.g. the number of prayers or the pattern in which the congregation stand).

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

In addition, everything about the “Christmas” tradition is from the pagans.

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

Hang turbans in front of the fireplace instead of stockings.

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

if you can get e-permission from Prophet and/or God then people like DB can “enjoy their lives”

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

did you know that a yule log was a symbol of fertility for the druids (i think it was the druids...half of the christmas traditions come from the druids).

i dont know about the guys, but for me, being a girl...eid means a chance to dress up, put on mehndi, get together with my friends or go to visit my khala. true eid kinda...well it's not the same here as being there, watching the goat getting it's throat slit, that's just something in its own.

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

Sorry cant do again. Turbans are a cultural thing.. mostly arabic, some indian/pakistani etc. Nothing to do with Islam.

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree

we fight on religions,,,
mine is better,,,,,the other says mine is,,,,
but we don't act on them,,,,
i wonder if Almighty God after death may ask about the mode of celebration for Eid,,,
but for sure we all shall be asked about the namaz, rozza, haj , zakat and Jihad.
