Re: Eid Tree VS Christmas Tree
Now we’re talking!!! We gotta put a stop to making Eid look so dull and Boring especially in the west. I know in Middle East Eid trully is a festive festive season. All the sales! The minature amusement parks, the beach. Ahh!!! Its fun in Pakistan too, if u’ve got family there ![]()
GuppiesWhat started off as a joke, has lead to some serious discussion (I can hope right). What I meant is that, our grandparents and our parents did alot for us. Investing so much energy into making Eid so full of fun and giving us those beautiful memories, that we’ll talk about until the last breath of our lives. Alhumdulilah for that!
Now that most of us are in the age when we don’t have our old fashioned folks around us. Some pass away too soon, others simply aren’t around close enuf:bummer: My mum-in-law (may Allah bless her sould and rest her in peace) just the last bakra-eid made a great big deal of buying a big fat, white dumba for my toddler. Though she had no clue, and my spouse was more giddy by seeing the dunba (after spending most of his life in the west), still there was excitement in the house. that OH MY GOD, we have a lamb. We gladly tied it to a water pipe pole near our swimming pool numa pond in lahore (which wasn’t a good idea). It makes me sad to think that only she (M-i-l) was the one who cared enough about keeping the tradition alive. She’s gone now, to me it seems like the life out of that city is gone! Even if someone else tries to do what she did for my kid, will never be the same:bummer: hie na? excuse me for being all emotional and getting off track…
…so getting back to the topic.
Here in the west my family tries their best to make the Eid as special. Giving gifts to the children, having a ‘get together’ the entire day, games, music, the kids decorating the house with chamkilay desi decor etc. The guys are forced to take a day off! The morning nimaz is so much fun, especially when u get stuck in traffic, with babajan all cursing and fumming (though its usually bro that drives). While we laugh asking him, to relax and calm down since its eid!
My 2.5 yr old had her very first eid in Canada this Nov. Every time she passes by the closet seeing her eid outfit, she insists: lets go to Eid! ![]()
Being here in the west, or even in east, I’ve noticed that my generation is not all THAT much into the spirit of Eid. Why? God knows! Perhaps too depressed! Too stressed to let a smile come on their own face. We’ve forgotten how to be young. How to be trully happy. (well yeah I’m all that and so many others I know are the same). Do we really make the effort to make EID a special occassion for our little ones anymore? May it be our own kids, paroosi kay kids, nieces, nehphews, friends who ever the little kids are. Do we take the time out to think to give them those beautiful memories like we have been blessed with from our childhood? Is it fair to depreive them of it? If yes, then we shouldn’t blame them being more happy at the festive seasons of other cultures. Some parents even think its harmless, or even COOL that their kids appreciate the holidays of the west:grumpy: Now where’s the end to this non-sense? sigh
Ok bub bye for now!
**db too depressed **
