Eid Outside Pakistan

Whats the difference between Eid celebrations in Pakistan and outside Pakistan especially other than Muslim countries?

Eid Outside Pakistan

The Masjid you attend is sort of your family. People actually go out of their way to make eid fun. I know masjid coordinators who get pressies for kids, games and have like a bouncehouse wagera for kids. There is a communal dawat where everyone chips in an gets food catered. Friends are family for those whose relatives are settled else where. There is a chaand raat party where there are no aas lagaye bethe admi choori charhane me intezaar main, you pretty much buy packaged churiyan and kapre. There is face painting for kids and henna for kids and ladies. Ofcouse pakistan ki ronaq nahi hai and I miss the chaand raat most around eid times. People also do open houses where one family invites the lot from their local social circle and we do the best here we can to make eid fun!! Khatti report here!!!

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

Sounds nice that people do so much activities on Eid days. I thought people could not get that much time as there are no Eid holidays.

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

lol, last time i went to juice shop on chand raat, you know what, desi were reached there too. ;)
on eid day, our mosque offers free nashta of halwa puri. nights before eid, some girls also decorate chorian, kapray etc etc and sell them. there are also few organized chand raat too. will tell you later once i get on hand information. i dont rely on other people, until i see by myself. ;)

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

You mean chand Raat like the situation shown in the song ‘Sharaara Sharaara’ :hayaa:

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

Here I dont have the big extended fammily I used to have back home... I also live in a rural area and the only other Asians in the village happen to be a Bangladeshi fammily whos home is across the fields from ours.

Still regardless of race or creed when it comes to throwing an Eid party I can ussually muster some long distance contacts and throw out the tent for everyone. I have some relatives in the North of England and some in the South, they all love the tent parties its like a marqee for village festivals. :D

The Local Italian fammily and us also get along well and while they aint exactly muslim, we still enjoy rich cultural ties and whenever theres an occasion to celebrate we do it as a community. :D

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

I never went to those events, but this year I will go, if time allows me.

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

We go to eid namaz , lot of desi community there, then eat lunch with friends and families, actually its fun. And our group of families give children eidies or eid presents, kids get really excited and happy and they wait for eidi. And like Pakistan lots of food and mithai and swayaan are always part of eid. For chand raat there are chaand raat events where usually ladies go and have mehndi on.

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

I feel that people outside their countries celebrate Eid and like events with more excitement than people at home

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

Thats true because my husband told me that when they were in Pakistan , they had nothing to do except read eid namaaz, go to qabristan and come home. Relatives come and meat them. But here since we are alone and no family is here people do lot of effort for their children. like they decorate house, take them to games, have parties ,wear heavy dresses.

Re: Eid Outside Pakistan

I think when you are at home, you got chance to meet same people again and again and there are chances that relationships not always remain pleasant because of tussles common in Desi society. So I’ve seen people avoid interacting with relatives on Eid, this makes Eid at home very boring :bummer:
