hey u-z! :D you mentioned chaand-raat and just reminded me of something else.
on chaand raat we're all up late anyways for one last chance to gather ramadan's blessings...we've got a tradition of everyone gathering around for gift-giving. we bring out all the wrapped boxes/gift bags and place them in one section of the house.. and when we're all sitting around..we can open it if we're in a hurry to see what we got...or open 'em after coming home from eid prayers. :D it's worked for us as a big family and as a family of 2 as well.
