Re: eid clothes of your grand parents
my Dad wore Jinnah Style Sherwani [mostly black and grey in winter AND cream color and white in summer] with AligaRhii white paijaama and black pump [shoes].
my mum used to wear shalwar/qameez and sometimes Gharaarah.
i still wear Black AligaRhii sherwani and white AligaRhii paijaama [with black Rampuri cap] on Fridays, Eidai'n and special occasions...this was my uniform at Aligarh Muslim University to be worn on occasions...attendees at annual convocations are NOT allowed in without this uniform.

I don’t know how dhotis are tied, but if they are tied anything like lungis that south Indian folks wear, then it should never come off. The reason I say so is that lower part of ehraam is tied like lungis, and I had one on for five days straight, and I prayed, walked, ran and slept in that and it never came off.
