Don’t you think they’re a bit over-the-top?
Heck all of our celebrations are over-the-top 
even funerals sometimes. 
I don’t know, I may be a boring person, but I think most of the eid expenses are unnecessary. Or because its eid, does that justify our heavy expenditures?

umm having a nice meal with family and friends while wearing a new outfit I don't see any unnecessary expense. Unless there are people who go beyond this and make it elaborate? Isn't the point of Eid getting together with loved ones? It is also recommended that one wear their nice clothes on the day of Eid and also to Eid prayer.

For me theres only three things I ask for on Eid.
Peace between everyone… my community and especially my extended fammily are notoriusly violent and fight all the time if it’s not amongst themselves it’s with someone else… Aside to the fisticuffs, long standing fueds, centuries old mudslinging, and even in house intrigue and conspiracy 
nobody dares break the Eid peace. 
The clothes and the money come second.
But if anything Eid means we can all stand shoulder to shoulder, without beating each other or swearing etc…
What would be over the top and down right freaky is if we all had a parade or something or booked a hall… thats a health and saftey hazard.
