Bulgaria declares Eid as public holiday for Muslims

SOFIA, Bulgaria: The Bulgarian government has decided to grant the Muslims residing here a public holiday for the Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.
The move will take effect from this year 2004.
Muslims make up 13 percent of the country’s population of 8.5 million. For 500 years, from 1396 AD, Bulgaria had been under Ottoman hegemony.
