When you live outside Pakistan, a Pakistan cricket match falling on eid day usually is not something really significant. Howwver I remember when I was in Pakistan, cricket match on eid day used to be really really fun watching it with entire family (uncles, cousins etc). DO you have any memory of watching a cricket match on eid day? I know I have watched many but there is one which I can think of immediately.
Back in 2000, I think it was eid-ul-fitr and Pakisyan was playing C&B series in Australia. The third team was India (that was the series when Razzaq bambozzled Tendi on several occasions with his in dippers). Pakistan was playing a double header one on Chand Raat and then other one was on the day of eid. Those who remember watching Australian games in Pakistan can recall that D/N games usally start in the morning around 7 - 8 AM.
PAkistan won the opening match against Australia and then faced India on the day of Eid. I still remember that thrilling game which indeed was one of the classic Pak-India ODI games. Pakistan snatched victory when India were looking to defeat Pakistan in a low scoring game. I lost complete hope when Pakistan’s man of crisis, Moin Khan was caught brilliantly by Dravid. Yousuf, and later Saqi/Waqar 9th wicket partnership saved the match. Here is the score card. If anyone can find the highlights, that will be great.
Remember that match, too. It had started early in the morning. A day earlier, chaand raat was spent talking about the match for tomorrow. Next morning, as the people were coming into the masjid, each one of them was bringing the latest match update with them. So the people at mosque were relying on their neighbors to bring as many 'updates' as they could. By the time namaaz started, we thought to enjoy the rest of the day as Pakistan was struggling. Although after the namaaz, we couldn't find lots of people to congratulate as everyone had rushed off to their TV sets. Finally missed the whole match and came back in the afternoon/evening to find out it was a thriller. Oh well. Caught PTV highlights at the end.
I think the Pakistan vs India BCCI Platinum Jubilee Match in 2004 was on Eid. I remember most of my family watching it on the computer thanks to Gupshup members providing streams.
