re-pasted:
This is from a Pms ent to another guppy, it's pretty applicable.
Egypt is very safe more so than London.
"Not sure how long your friend has.
Scuba-diving
3-4 days
Sharm El Sheik, 1 hr flight from Cairo OR Hurghada, similar flying time. Plenty of places to get the basics course done (1/2 day) then enoy the clear blue waters of the Red Sea.
Places to visit in Cairo;
1 Day
Pyramiddy places
Giza - 25 mins drive from Cairo – The sphinx, Pyramid of Khufu etc
Memphis - 40 mins drive form Cairo – The orig capital, nice little place
Saqqara – 40 mins drive from Cairo – More pyramids
Egyptian museum - downtown Cairo a must
1 Day
The Citadel - a collection of fortifications and mosques dating form the earliest Muslim invasions. Boasts a couple of museums too, but not very well organised.
The views from the citadel are breathtaking.
Places to visit in Alexandria (3 hrs drive from Cairo);
1Day
Pompeii’s pillar, still makes me dizzy
Citadel by the Sea
But most of all for the fish cuisine, best I’ve had in the Med.
Luxor/Aswan (Luxor under 2 hrs flight from Cairo)
3-4 days
Valley of the Kings etc
Nile cruise to Aswan usually followed by a flight back to Luxor or Cairo.
But my favourite place of all in the last two years has been Taba (a bit difficult to get to without desert passes, but well worth it if she is so inclined) right on the border with Isreal, the coastlines of Jordon and Saudia Arabia are clearly visible. A place called the Fjord……..must take the misses back there soon, she didn’t mind me being on gupshup for a month after we got back. Darkest azure waters set against the back drop of the barren Red Sea Hills.
Oh and right in the middle of Sinai Mt St Catherine, the oldest monastery in Egypt."
