QUOTE: PARIS: Egyptians want Islam to play a large role in politics, reject radical Islam and think democracy is the best political system, according to poll data collected in Muslim countries last year.
The data, published by the US based Pew Research Center in December, gives an idea of Egyptian public opinion before the current protests broke out.
Collected in April and May of last year for Pew’s Global Attitudes Project, the report described Muslim attitudes about religion in politics in seven countries — Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey. UNQUOTE:
This poll is the bottom line of true democracy… unlike US defined and prescribed plutocratic and oligarchic regimes as suitable forms of democracies for the Muslim World.!
To me democracy is the government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them, so, if Egyptions wish for Islamic government that is exactly what they are going to get… you can count on it.
Well, right off the bat the headline of this story is just an opinion and not based on the poll results.
Headline: Egyptians want more Islam in politics: Poll
Looking at this question from the poll:
How much of a role does Islam play in Egyptian politics now? 48 per cent said “large” and 49 per cent said “small.
That is an even split. Thus the writers should not make the conclusion that their headline makes.
That said,
Islam and Democracy are not water and oil, there is no reason the two cannot work together. You are right, it is up to the people, not a select few thus it will be tricky to decide what role that is and how large it is.
I was reading somewhere that the guy Hussaini Mubarakan has amassed huge amount of wealth- to the tune of many billions of dollars. Introducing islam in Egypt will make their siyasatdaans more accountable and answerable to Allah(SWT). They should introduce sharia(nizam-e-mustafa) in Egypt for everyone.
mubarak is as secular as secular can be looking at those resorts in sharam ul shaikh so mubarak quiting would mean death of secularism in egypt and fatal headache for zionist regime in occupied Palestine
everything that brings cash is not good......those who rob banks bring cash too...dosent makes it legit....am not answerable for UAE neither do i endorse what goes on there
Look lets first pray that Mubarak leaves the damn country and then argue over Shariah or secular laws.
Actually Shariah is what most of the youth is demanding. If Mubarak implements strict sharia laws and introduces Blasphemy like Pakistan did, then people would be happy and he can stay.
