They could be right if we see it in light of this ayat where Quran says : *"There is no compulsion in religion." *(2:257)
Allah knows better .
This ayah is referring to someone who is already a non-Muslims and not about aposates. Prophet s.a.w, Sahabas, Fuqaha and Mufassireen also knew this ayat but they didnt intrepret it the way modernist/secularist in our times do.
