**Israel warns Egypt against violating airspace **11-01-2005
JERUSALEM: Israel has asked Egypt to prevent its planes from entering Israeli air space near the southern port of Eilat, officials said, warning that if an attack is suspected, an intruding plane might be shot down. The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the usual flight paths of Egyptian planes heading for Jordan cross near Eilat, but often the planes deviate from the route and enter Israeli air space.
The officials said Israel has often scrambled jet interceptors and aimed Hawk anti-aircraft missiles at planes approaching Eilat.
The officials said Egypt has not responded to urgent Israeli messages, and the overflights continue. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ahmed Izzat, said he had no knowledge of the Israeli request. ap

Egypt should be very careful, little Israel has already handed them 4 humiliating defeats in a span of 50 years. Are they really that anxious to lose the Sinai again?
I would imagine that Egyptian planes are radar locked pretty quickly. The Israeli military has more high technology than Egypt can dream of.
More than likely Egypt is probing a new Israeli radar installation, or system, and they are trying to figure out when the new system is able to detect their planes. These games get played all of the time.
Egyptian pilots want Sirat-e-Mustakeem (shortest route) to get to where they want. There’s nothing mischievous in their intentions. They know that Israelis can shoot their planes down even before takeoff.
