Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Interesting developments from sectarian bigots in Egypt.

Salafis to lobby against rapprochement with Iran | Egypt Independent

The Salafi Dawah and the Nour Party are launching campaigns against Egypt’s warming ties with Iran, leading Salafi sources have told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The groups will stage a series of Friday protests outside the residence of Iranian Ambassador Mojtabi Amani, which will be followed by demonstrations outside the Muslim Brotherhood’s headquarters.

Sources also added that a panel, led by Salafi Dawah deputy chairman Ahmed Farid and comprising lawyers, preachers, Nour Party MPs and business and media figures, will press the Egyptian government to revoke bilateral agreements between the two countries and reject Iranian tourists.

The panel will also submit monthly reports tracking Shia “publications and rituals” in Egypt.

“The Salafi Dawah has decided to counter the Shia tide in Egypt,” its deputy chairman, Sheikh Yasser al-Borahmi, told Al-Masry al-Youm.

Borhami added that the group will hold seminars to educate citizens about the “danger of Shias,” while also criticizing the president and the government for ignoring his advice to distance the country from Iran, and from Shias in general.

Waleed Ismail, leader of the Coalition for the Defense of the Prophet’s Companions and Household, said his group will also join the protests Amani’s residence and accused him of being ambiguous about the intended destinations of Iranian tourists.

“The Friday after next, we will protest outside the [Muslim Brotherhood’s] Guidance Bureau in Moqattam to send a message to President [Mohamed] Morsy that we do not want Iranian tourism in Egypt, and that we shall never accept his rule so long as he seeks to … turn Egypt into another Syria or Iraq,” he said.

Ismail also alleged that Shias had established a site for “rituals” in Ras Ghareb in Red Sea Governorate, adding that his group would destroy the site if the government did not.

The protests against renewed Egypt-Iran ties and Iranian tourists in Egypt signal the deeply held antipathy that some Salafi and conservative Sunni Muslim groups hold toward Shia Muslims. Many have used the recent visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to inveigh against alleged Shia plots against the country.

Egypt is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim, while Iranian’s population is heavily Shia.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Ironic. Hardcore salafis are supposed to be anti public-protesting.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

They are anti protests only when it suits them. Hypocrisy as usual.

Salalfis don't have as much problem with egypt's continued ties with Israeli Zionists. Just proves once again that salafi Wahhabis and Zionists go hand in hand.

Ironic indeed. Why doesn't the government just have these guys arrested like dem evil secularists?

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

^ I read somewhere in these the forums that "secularists are not impartial. Period".

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

I mean look at southie bhai. If he was impartial then he would named himself neutral instead of clearing showing a bias for the South!

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

"salafi wahabis", now that's a new one! lol

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Aaj se humra naam neutral hoyi gawa.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Not just Salafis, everyone should protest against these ties coz of Iran's role in Syrian conflict.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

^ Except that their opposition to Iran is not due to Iran's policy in Syria but due to it being majority shia. So your argument above quickly goes down the drain.
And if Iran's policy is worth condemnation then so is the policy of those who stoked the sectarian fire which resulted in so many deaths. Sau dis, Qataris.

Lastly, if Iran's policy really is sooo bad that Salafi Wahhabi do not want any Iranian presence in Egypt then does it mean they support ISRAELI policies? Why don't they come out so vehemently about that?

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

^as if Salafis wahabis and non-shia are given VIP treatment in Iran. Iran shouldn't expect any support from Sunnis while supporting brutalities against Syrian people, period.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

^ If non-shias are not given any support by Iran then Iran should not be the BIGGEST supporter of HAMAS in Palestine! Nor it should have welcomed Mursi of Muslim Brotherhood in the country.
Besides, having a diplomatic mission established in Egypt is not equivalent to supporting Iran. Remember that even ISRAELIS visit Egypt all the time. And yet Salafi wahhabis have no problem with them. Shows how enseSalafis and Sehoonis work together.

I see the speeches of Salafi mullahs have profound impact on some folks. So much is their heart filled with hatred that they are now devoid of common sense. They would rather work with Zionists then to see Muslims be united against Zionism.

I think Iranian mullahs, in their religious self-righteousness, are committing absolute folly by confronting Americans for no reason. They need to understand that America is not their enemy. It is Salafi wahhabis who are the biggest enemies of shias AND sunnis.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Don't know about others but for me (non-talafiwahabi), zionists and shias go hand in hand.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Well, I am not surprised at all. And I can see the effect of this hateful khariji ideology all across Pakistan where massacre of Muslims is happening daily.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Iran have beef with Israel not because Iran wants to help or support Sunnis. Everyone knows that. And Iran's stance on Syrian conflict has proved that.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

The Egyptian Salafists opposition is based entirely on sectarian grounds - they have not been citing Syrian solidarity at all. Instead, their arguments are focused on Iran's Shia nature.

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood has a more productive attitude - they are using Egypt's new ties with Iran to try to persuade Iran to stop backing Syria. A high-level delegation from Egypt is apparently going to Iran this week to discuss a new plan to end the conflict.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

I thought Muslim brotherhood were salafis.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Well, that tells why you are so confused about politics of that region.
Brotherhood is like Jamaatis or Deobandis of Pakistan. Salafis are like ahle hadeeth of Pakistan.
Hamas is an extension of Brotherhood.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Salafi is not a political movement but Brotherhood is...that's why I was confused. But I see Salafis have been working along with Brotherhood and just now they have separated over some issue.

Anyway, I don't think Brotherhood can change Iran's mind regarding Syria.

Re: Egypt: Salafis protest against establishing ties with Iran because it's Shia

Policies of different countries w.r.t Syria is an altogether different discussion. But Salafis in Egypt are not against Iran due to its Syria policy, rather it is due to its being shia majority country. Syria is just an excuse for them.
