Egypt govt's case against foreign NGO's: A dilemma for the US

America could not stop Egyptians throwing away their favorite dictator. Now there is no player in Egypt that the US could rely on. Forget Ikhwan, even the secular generals are provoking US.
And US cannot even stop aid to them because then there will be even more sever backlash from Egypt against the US and Israel.

I hope the next government in Egypt be of Ikhwan. That will be a blow to Zionist occupiers.

Egypt sets start date for criminal trial of foreign-funded NGO workers for Feb. 26 - The Washington Post
CAIRO — Egypt will begin hearing the criminal trial of 19 Americans and 24 others on Feb. 26 in a politically charged case against foreign-funded pro-democracy groups, the country’s state news agency said Saturday.**The trial represents an escalation in what has become the deepest crisis in U.S.-Egyptian relations in decades. **American officials have said the investigation could hinder the more than $1 billion in U.S. aid that Cairo receives. Egyptian authorities have blasted what they call U.S. interference in legal affairs.

The report said all the defendants had been charged with founding and managing offices of international organizations without licenses from the Egyptian government, and with receiving foreign funding. The groups’ operations “infringe on Egyptian sovereignty,” it said.

Its only because the SCAF is trying to shift anger away from themselves to the USA.

Re: Egypt govt's case against foreign NGO's: A dilemma for the US

Good. US is bluffing about cutting aid, because it will end any leverage (blackmail) which they desperately need to protect isreal, and secondly Iran has offered to step in with the funding, and that would be a nightmare for Isreal and the west. So Egypt has got nothing to worry about, they have the power here.

But NGO are suppose to be non governmental, so US is breaking the law.

Re: Egypt govt's case against foreign NGO's: A dilemma for the US

Whatever the reason, the US is running out of friends in Egypt. And Egypt is the most populous Arab country which also borders Gaza Strip.
If the next government is of Ikhwan then it would be equivalent of Hamas itself controlling Egypt.

looks like someone forgot to file their TPS reports in triplicate :D

Re: Egypt govt's case against foreign NGO's: A dilemma for the US

NGO's are full of dubious individuals who cannot be trusted they have dual purpose the other being to undermine governments who do not toe the line of their funders usually the United States.

the Egyptian government are oppressors who need to go and the NGO's should be kicked out too.

Re: Egypt govt’s case against foreign NGO’s: A dilemma for the US

Does US have the guts to discontinue Egypt’s aid?

Re: Egypt govt’s case against foreign NGO’s: A dilemma for the US

its all talk, if US remove aid they will lose control over their puppet regime in egypt.

then egypt will finally be free from remote colonial rule so US please cut the aid and get lost from all our countries, your not wanted.

Re: Egypt govt's case against foreign NGO's: A dilemma for the US

Re: Egypt govt's case against foreign NGO's: A dilemma for the US
