Which one would you recommend and which two can be visited in one trip?
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
hi i just got back from egypt 2 weeks ago, i loved it! we went to cairo for 2 days, saw the pyramids, sphinx etc then spent 6 days in sharm-el-sheikh which was amazing we did lots of activites.. if ur into the history i suggest u go to Luxor as it has the valley of the kings but if u want to go for a relaxing holiday sharm el sheikhs the place to be
CM, you lucky man going to Egypt - you will love it there.
We went to all 3. On our first trip we went to Cairo and Luxor. Cairo is very busy and there is alot of hustle and bustle. The museam, pyramids and the sphinx are main things to see. You can catch the night train to Luxor which leaves at 8pm which is an experience in itself. You get to Luxor the next morning at 5-6am. Luxor has alot of history with valley of kings and the queens. Luxor is much quieter than Cairo. We stayed at Maritim JolieVille Hotel by the Nile and thoroughly enjoyed. Beware, Luxor is much much hotter than Cairo.
On our second trip we went to Sharm for a week. That was amazing! Again, the weather is not as hot but just right. Its not too busy either and depending on where you stay, you will be a short drive from the bazaars/restaurants. There is Jebel Musa to climb which we did - that is an overwhelming experience. You start your ascent at 12.30am and get to the peak at 5.30am. If you do go to Sharm, you must do this. Another activity is quad biking - another great fun experience.
You can go to all 3 places at the same time but you would need more than one week!
Have fun!
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor

Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking between Cairo and Luxor and Cairo and Sharm.
How much does it cost for the night train to luxor from Cairo? Where do you book the tickets from?
Also, I don't think there is a train from Cairo to Sharm, how much does it cost to get there by coach and how long?
Is it relatively cheap for eating and shopping?
i'm off to luxor/cairo next week.....i would advise luxor, and to get a hotel just outside of the city where u have peace and quiet, situated along the river nile. Sharm is a man made resort for tourists.....but for the islamic history....luxor/cairo are the best. i planned on going to sharm first but after asking lots of ppl and research felt luxor was the best!
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
p.s if u want to fly to cairo from luxor its approx 150 pounds return, u can get a sleeper train overnight for 60.00 pounds
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
Sharm is good place if you love beach and scooba diving otherwise there is not much in terms of its location its a town just for the tourist who go there to have sun and beach.
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
Great, I've decided Cairo and then Luxor. Can I book the train ticket in advance? Is it £60.00 return?
Silsila, Are you flying back from Cairo or Luxor? I can get hotels for £100.00 per week but flights are costing a bomb. Which airline are you flying with?
Also what is the best area for hotel in Cairo? Nr Pyramids or Old Cairo?
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
i booked with thomas cook.....740 for two at a 5* hotel from man toluxor (return). we are going to cairo whilst in luxor. you can do a nile cruise and go to luxor, cairo, aswaan and hurgada for about 500pp....dont book flights seperatly u will pay so much more
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
^ that's a great deal 5* for both of u! I think it's costing us more because we're planning to go in August. R u going for 2 weeks? how long are you planning to stay at Cairo? Man is closer to us too.
Post pics and let us know how it was. Have a nice trip!
Re: Egypt: Cairo, Sharm Al Sheikh or Luxor
august isnt an expensive time as tourists dont go much due to the heat, its expensive from oct to may as thats when the heat is bearable! we are only going for 7 nights, but if u want to do cairo whilst in luxor i would advise more that seven days - cairo can take up to two days from ur holiday
