Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

Hamas released a statement on Saturday condemning Egypt’s closure of tunnels with Gaza, saying this renews Israel’s blockade on the strip, reported AFP.

Khalil El-Haya, a senior Hamas official, said at a conference in Gaza that the tunnels were the only means available to Palestinians to face Israel’s “brutal blockade,” reported the agency.

“It is a renewal of the blockade…but Egypt does not want that to happen,” Haya said, urging Egyptian authorities to open the Rafah border crossing to end the blockade.

The tunnels have been a vital lifeline for the flow of food, clothes, building materials and fuel into the impoverished territory, which Israel has blockaded since 2006.

Hamas condemns Egypt

What is with the islamic brotherhood flooding the supply line to the palestinians? as if the palestinians have not suffered enough being bombed to death by the israelis they now stabbed in the back by Egyptian government.

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

so now the "muslim brotherhood"in egypt stabbing the palestinians in the back i thought these people was going to make islamic revolution instead they same as all other puppet rulers!

agreed

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

When the recent Gaza Israeli was unfolding I did think President Morsi was playing a cunning political game with the Palestinians, as do the Israelis and other leaders. It seems almost all the main players exploit the Middle East crisis for their own gain.

“Many of them were closed down because they were used to smuggle banned materials that harm citizens.”

The Hamas government forbids the importation of drugs and any other items it considers potentially harmful into the Palestinian enclave which is under an Israeli blockade.

That may explain it.

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

^ when a nation is sanctioned and subjected to poverty that is a poor excuse.

The borders are still closed and now the tunnels flooded. Morsi and his party have lot to answer for

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

Really? who to?

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

Morsi I believe is trying to safeguard his own country. Too much leeway to the Palestinians have started destabilizing Egypt as well, I am talking about the militants in Sinai. Report: Egyptian authorities fear increased attacks by militants in the Sinai - Threat Matrix

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

That's a rather simplisitc assessment. Full scale war is hardly in anyone's interest right now, as I don't think any single Muslim nation on earth is capable of a sustained war with a developed army. Syria allegedly had one of the most advanced armies of Arab nations, and it's having a hard time against a rag tag band of fighters. So aggressivley persuing one's policy isn't going to fly. Now, if Hamas wishes to act aggressivley, and at the behest of OTHER nations (notably Iran), then we shouldn't be surprised if Egypt reacts with anger...there's a big difference between receiving help from the righteous, and demanding help because one is self righteous.

Perhaps my assessment is wrong, but the point is: slogans and dreams of (undeeded) revolutions only get you so far. There's much going on behind the scenes, so it's best to read between the lines.

I feel sorry for Morsi. He's inherited a mess. The economy is in shambles. The secularists are hell bent on non-coporation as they don't recognize his rightful role as preseident. His job isn't to play second fiddle to palestinian asperations, as much as I do support them. That hardly makes him a puppet of anyone...

Re: Egypt blocks and floods the supply lines to Palestine

Morsi and the Muslim brotherhood have been elected by the people of Egypt, they have their mandate. I imagine they will say that less tunnels are manageable and thus could ensure only genuine aid will pass through.
