Effects of Swimming on Skin?

:salam: guppies,

What effect could swimming in an indoor pool [but there is sunlight] with a heavy percentage of chlorine in the water [more than normal]…have on your skin? What can be done to avoid these effects?

I used to swim regulary couple yrs back but never noticed any affect on my skin :konfused: but then again I’m a jhalli when it comes to noticing such stuff :smack:

So please let me know if you have any info at all…

thanks a lot!

put baby oil on your skin after youre done. wear a swimming cap because chlorine is baaaadd for your hair.

As long as you shower after swimming and moisturise then you should be fine. Chlorine is very drying on the skin and hair but thats really the most damage you'll get.

Hmmm I C. Thanks guys.

hmm..i never thought about this...i do know chlorine damages the hair as Cat said, so if thats correct, it must have some effect on the skin too. why dont ppl talk about it...? no research, articles or documentaries ever seen.
but i think there is some internationally standaridized qtty of chlorine and other chemicals prescribed for swimming pools, most proper pools maintain that, or atleast they should...?

Haris true, but you know they dont care abt such stuff here sadly :smack: Even in the pools of the big clubs n hotels they dont care abt the chlorine %age. They dont change the water regularly and to make it look clean they keep adding chlorine, its quite gross

guys

swimming tans you. all my friends told me that.

even if the pool is an indoor one, there will be some sunlight rays that will seep in and it will tan your skin.

i dont really care abt that coz as an exercise i LOVE swimming. its really the BEST, most refreshing, awesome exercise ever. it tones ur whole body and makes u feel FIT.

however, in karachi, even the pools at the five star hotels dont change the water regularly. they keep refiltering the water and adding chorine. the best known pool in karachi is the defence club pool and even they don't change the water regularly. so i guess the option of swimming is out.

oh well :-)

Infact chlorine is good in a way. It kills the becteria, if they wont put it in water,… pani mein keeray per jain gay.

For an experiment u can pure water in two diff glasses (make sure to put them away from sunlight, complete dark is more better for quicker effects) add some chlorine in one of the glass. The water without chlorine. 48 hours ke baad without chlorine wala pani kharab hona shuru ho jai ga … agar 15-20 din chor do tu keeray bhi shayed per jain

But yes excessive use of anything is not good, be it chlorine. If u swim once or twice in a week it should be perfectly fine. Even the water u use at home, Waterboard adds chlorine in it. Hair damage is the known effect tho bcos it dries a skin a bit & ser mein khushki per jai gi

:bravo:

well if you dont have shalwar kameez, (if its a serious swimwear) you could have gone natural :)

yes it does have effect on skin and hairs. atleast I always get very dry skin after swiming. i just use moisturiser.
