Education

Lets move beyond the daily spicy news bits that we’re so used to and have discussed them almost to a point where we start feeling like a part of the Parliament (rowdy and all included).

Lets talk about the Education structure in Pakistan. Currently, it is very poor. Those who have connections, or are able to afford a decent education excel in all fields, and eventually try to look for educational opportunities abroad. All while the poor are left with Government standard education, with almost no opportunities of a decent job in sight after he/she has finished the education.

The corruption has plagued even the noble profession of Education. You spend hefty amounts of money and you may get admission, or “purchase” merit. There are some students who earn their degrees and education purely based on merit but the ratio between the deserving and not-qualified is far too great, with the latter overwhelming the hard-working middle-class/lower middle class students.

What do you guys think needs to be done to improve the overall education system in Pakistan? Can it be achieved in a short span of time? Do we need to increase the teachers’ wages? Should the education be totally free upto a certain level?

Discuss, share, and lets learn from each others’ perspective on this equally vital issue.

Re: Education

Firstly in my opinion is a vicious crack down on the current education establishment. Pakistan has a few major issues regarding education but the main ones are Ghost schools and lack of proper teachers. Ghost schools are basically schools in name based in a village, they get funding and supplies, but they don't physically exist. Someone is just eating up the money. That is a waste of resources and thus problematic on many levels. In this regard the vicious crack down should consist of finding out whoever is involved in this cons and hanging them by their necks. No I am not joking.

The respect for the law and the rules in Pakistani is pathetic. People do exactly what they want without repercussion. So to stem this tide once and for all, implement capital punishment in case of bribery, misappropriation of funds and to give it public support implement it part of Islamic law. No need to call it Shariah. Simply use the hadis of the Prophet as the basis. Nobody will dare stand against that.

Secondly increase the pay scale of the teachers. Teachers in Pakistani public education get paid absolutely nothing. Their salaries and benefits should be increased to make the job lucrative and we get the best we can.

Secondly require all education establishments specifically the private ones to register with the government, require mandatory inspections of their facilities and lastly follow a standard curriculum. Oh yeah shut down half the bloody schools that are built in houses with no basic facilities for any class.

Re: Education

In my opinion, it should made mandatory for all govt employees and MNAs to send their children to Govt schools and colleges.

I refer you to my two threads on similar subject. One is about pathetic state of law enforcement while the other is about corruption in different departments and different institutions. I guess I didn’t do a good job of write-up to invite more replies there.
