Education Minister Zobaida Jalal on Tuesday rejected the impression that any chapter or verses regarding “Jihad” or “Shahadat” (martyrdom) had been deleted from textbooks. She, however, said her ministry would delete from textbooks any objectionable material, if found, intended to fan sectarian hatred. The minister was speaking at a national seminar on Preventive Education against HIV/AIDS, organized by the education ministry in collaboration with Unesco. Brushing aside the impression that verses regarding Jihad had been deleted from syllabus, Ms Jalal said these verses had been shifted from intermediate to matriculation level courses. She maintained that her ministry was the defender of the ideological boundaries of the country and would take all measures to uphold the Islamic identity of the nation. Bringing modifications in the textbooks through up-to-date changes is the sole discretion of the provinces, but they can only modify the textbooks by following a strict policy guideline framed by the federal ministry of education, she said.
Reports have also been sought from the provinces on the issue to inform the public and the parliamentarians about the actual situation, she said. The minister also appealed to the religious quarters to logically look into the matter. **She said Pakistan, being a Islamic country, could not afford to keep the students and the young generation in the dark about the basics of the religion. She termed Jihad an integral part of the syllabus and said removing related verses would be tantamount to deleting verses regarding Nimaz (prayers) from the syllabus. **
The minister said some politico-religious elements, through misinterpretation of the term Jihad, were trying to create an issue. She urged the media to take the matter logically and inform the masses about the factual position. She said the education policy had envisaged the introduction of HIV/AIDS education in the curriculum. The education ministry is endeavouring to create awareness about the emerging trends like population, environment, human Rights etc., through relevant curriculum modification. The minister also distributed certificates among the participants of the seminar. Meanwhile, talking to the Indian journalists at SAF games, the education minister said the syllabus being taught in Pakistan was minorities-friendly, and minorities enjoyed equal rights in the educational institutions.

jihad verses, are a thing of the past now...now there are chances of removing "two nation" theory from pakistani text books...

Only according to you, and some of your Indian sympathisers.

The school curriculam in Pakistani schools is being revised and many Quranic verses have been removed. Various chapters relating to our history are also under review. What do you think about it?
No they have not, just fallacious speculation that has been countered by the Education minister. Here is what she said:-
***Pakistan, being a Islamic country, could not afford to keep the students and the young generation in the dark about the basics of the religion. She termed Jihad an integral part of the syllabus and said removing related verses would be tantamount to deleting verses regarding Nimaz (prayers) from the syllabus. ***
Re: Education minister denies deletion of Jihad verses
I believe Pakistan is the only country in the world where children are not taught history as a subject in schools. Instead of teaching History they have invented a whole new subject "Pakistan Studies". What we are taught in Pakistan studies is sheer nonsense and full of propaganda. Remove this nonsense and teach the children about their glorious past, like Indus and Gadhara civilzaiton. Tell them the stories of brave Khoshal, Abdullah Bhatti, Porus and Chakar khan. What do we have to do with Moghals and Tipus? Biology and Physics should be spared with religious touch, for islamic teachings we have Islamiat.
Re: Re: Education minister denies deletion of Jihad verses
There must always be a broad section of subjects taught at Pakistani schools, including religion and all Pakistani history, and these reforms are long overdue.
We were watching a program on ARY one about this issue tonight, don't know if anyone else caught it. I don't know the name of all the guests but ND Khan was one of them and there were some government reps there too. The auidence was general public and they were asking questions.
From what it seemed, many crucial changes have indeed been made to the syllabus, books are now more 'secular' and give the image of a more 'modern and progressive' [read westernised] Pakistan. I don't know...I didn't feel too comfortable with this.
Considering that such a hue and cry has been raised, there has to be some element of truth to all this. I don't support this move of the government.
Imran Khan suggested that this was again an order coming from the US, the general is complying, proving his utmost loyalty to the US. I dont know if any verses pertaining to Jihad were deleted or not, but I question the honesty of this corrupt education minister, who is one of musharraf's personal favourites ;)
She recently brought alot of flat LCD screen televisions to her house in the village she originally belongs to (at the behest of learning/teaching), only a handful of brave newspaper journalists were bold enough to publish the news.
Spock wow, I had not heard about that bro, that’s shocking I used to hold ZJ in high esteem, I won’t just judge her yet but I’ll surely have to investigate the matter now. Hmmm.
I also heard something else today. Apparently in the new books they have mentioned in some place that Hazrat Umar (RA) used to enjoy music. People objected to this. ZJ said that will not be removed. Its still there. I listen to music myself but I do know its not good in Islam and I don’t think it should be mentioned in those books.
Another thing is, remember how in all Pakistani books, after the name of a sahaba or prophet you have Razi Allah Ta’ala Anhoo arabic superscript? They’ve removed that too from all the books I think that’s really a very very bad move.
I also heard this LAdy for the first time over the phone interview on ARY Shahid Massod.
and he asked all these questions. some answers were crafty.
she was really answerless when He asked, why would a white house defence official (that Black lady advisor of Bush) specially name and remember the name of Pakistan education minister to apperciate her on changes in the text books. it doesnt make sence??? she was beating around the bushes on this.
clearly there is hand of US in this change. though Pakistan text books did need a change and update but blindly making US happy would not be good in the long run.
Some texts " hindoun se azadi keliye jang lari ..." is changed to something like this " apney hamwatono se azadi ki jang lari"
:)
just to make it moderate :) but its funny to read.
I was seriously impressed by this lady from the news... but she didnt left an impression, may be she is working good.
she did agree to some mistakes and will ractify in the next year. apparently some blind orders to remove "rahmet allah ale" with all soofis and "invaders" (Mohammad bin Qasim)
and result was it was even removed from the names of Hazarat Majjad Alif Sani, Shah wali allah.
i think it went too far to moderate and freindship building between india and PAkistan.
