education is supposed to be affordable

Do u think it is?

i dont think so. Education is supposed to be like something that adds value to individuals. So do u think taking student loans and debting urself to pay for education adding value to life?
my dad paid for my education but i am beginning to think how many are out there who have to pay for themselves so how do they manage?Do u have any stories to share

Re: education is supposed to be affordable

In a handful of countries like Denmark, Norway and Finland, yes it is affordable since there is no tuition fees. All you have to pay for is accommodation and registeration/materials fees etc. In the rest of europe (most likely even the rest of the world), students are broke! Education is so darn expensive!!

Here in Ireland, its reasonable up to level 8 (Bachelors) for Irish nationals only because there is no tuition fees up to level 8 (all other fees still apply). But for non-nationals it is bloomin expensive! If I hadn't gotten the scholarship that I did for the masters I would've been in debt by now because I wasn't going to let dad pay for my education after level 8, given that he's having to pay for my siblings too... and I would've gotten a student loan by now... I mentioned this in another thread, but they're thinking of bringing up the reg fees to 3000 euros (in addition to tuition fees) and, if they do, thousands of students will be going on strike.

Some students can cover all their expenses by working part time but, after level 8, part time work money simply isn't enough to cover all expenses.

Re: education is supposed to be affordable

Oh and about ur question, whether these loans/debts add value to your life or not... hmm... i think its a good learning experience and it prepares you for the* real world* ... the ups and downs you go through during your education, whether financial difficulties or anything else, it only makes u more mature... thats about the only positive thing I can see...

In the end, what matters is good education... so as long as it pays off, aal iz well.

Re: education is supposed to be affordable

Education is investment into your future , and like any investment you do have to spend money and wait for its return . If you are lucky enough that someone is there to pay for you , then still make sure you try to return something back to the person . This might not be in a monitory shape , but might be by having a nice professional career . To answer the question that you have asked , if it does add value to your life , then I think it does , or may be even more . Because you strive to pay your debt after 4 or 6 years of education and also try to be successful in your professional life .

Re: education is supposed to be affordable

Education should be free but i had to pay for most of mine… :cryb:

And look what good that did… i learned more from getting hit and knocked down and having to roll and get back up than i ever learned behind a desk.

But yeah some good education was, still life is never fair, it’s why that suited perfumed human lapdog out of University get the job worth £50,000 a year while the man who risks his life and never has a chance to enjoy it dont get £20,000 a year if that…

In the UK university is a joke these days, you pay to go in… you pay to have a good time and you still come away with a scrap of paper at the end… okay sure you might have to put your head down at a few seminars and listen but it’s easy almost all the way.

In Pakistan if your rich and hardly talented you’ll still get Masters doting on you and helping you through those difficuilt sums, if your poor forget buying the books and stationary you’ll find that sort of money might go a long way to feeding you and your fammily… especially if you get yourself a dangerous job which pays well but cares not what risks you take.

Re: education is supposed to be affordable

Education is free here ofcourse if u have a brain and can earn a scholarship. There is no scarcity of scholarships and all the best institutions here have a slot for you if u can pass through their criteria that is solely dependent upon academic achievements and ability of the applicant.
