education, career, culture, life...

Rani janu, i went through your complete post and I think I know exactly how you are thinking coz I think I can relate to your thoughts

:flower1: hugz

acha,

med school k lyay if you apply to america/canada , you have to complete your bachelors first, and then you have to apply to med school, so that is quite a long process, and it takes many years, plus there’s no guarantee that you will get into a med school after your undergrad bc its very competetive. i dont know abt canada but thats how it was in america. so if you’re premed in america you really have to study very hard throughout your undergrad and make sure you have a really excellent gpa, plus you have to have good work experience etc as well. i’m not sure what the system is in canada, is it the same as america? so there’s no guarantees that you will end up in med school i feel.

lets say you come to pakistan for medical school, in karachi, there are many choices you have like Agha Khan, DOW, Hamdard, Baqai, Ziauddin and so on. many doctors from pakistan go to america/uk/canada after doing medicine here for their residency. since you’re already a canadian citizen * i think you won’t have trouble about visa issues when you want to go back after completing med school here, that is the biggest problem most people have.

about the license exam, i’m sure if you are a good student during medical school, and it looks like you are a hardworking student, you won’t have problems passing it inshallah.

as for med school kee parhai, the parhai here in pakistan in med schools is very very good, so dont think that you’ll be getting any less education here. haan ye hae ke over here there are other problems in colleges, like in DOW, the atmosphere you’ll find is very different than what you might be used to in your high school in canada. agha khana ur hamdard waghera phir bhee pvt institutes hayn and there the atmosphere is still ok. DOW mein ppl from all social classes come and study so you might need to adjust to some things.

as for going to college here and being part of the mainstream and enjoying the fun activities, yes that is true, its a completely different experience here and in america. both have got their advantages, but yes it is a complete desi atmosphere here. i know coz i been to america for college and my bros went here

where will u be living if u come to karachi? u might get a lil homesick being away from ur family, but if u have relatives or if u r living in a girls hostel it might be nice. plus u can visit during breaks. parhai here is less stressful than america thats true, but in Agha Khan it is very very competetive. baaki colleges kee itni tough nai hae. Agha Khan is the best though and you should try for that, phir Dow hae, phir SMC hae, phir hamdard/baqai waghera. there’s threads abt this in the career and academics forum of gs.

aur haan jaldi se info ikhati karna collect kar do coz i think u’ll have to start applying soon…AKU ka test bhee hota hay, i dont know if u’ll have to take it or not..but get started on collecting info waghera soon and be on top of the process

jahan tak shadi kee baat hae…yaar…trust me…u cant plan this thing…rishtay waqai aasmaanon pe bantay haen…aur jab shadi ka wakt hota hae Allah kee taraf se tab hi hoti hae…so right now the age u r in, u shud focus on geting the best education, shadi apnay time se jab ho gi ho gi, and ur parents mashallah will look into it and find u the best guy inshallah  who knows where he is, in pak/us/can, u cant say..so filhaal concentrate on ur studies and try to get into med school as u have always wished…

as for getting married early if u come to med school in pak..ye bhee kismat kee baat hae…there r ppl from pak who have done medicine frm here who get married late and ppl who r in med school in us/can who r married…so it depends k kab koi acha rishta milta hae aur kab tumhari kismat mein likhi hae shadi..lekin haan u will get done sooner if u go to med school here…lekin us k baad specialisation aur residency k lyay i guess u will go back to canada or america…

as for working after marriage or where u r going to settle waghera…ye bohot bohot doore kee baatein haen…aur insaan ko aglay din ka nai pata hota toh ye baatein toh phir kismat kee hoti haen…jab shadi ka waqt ayay ga koi rishta nazar mein ho ga tab sochna is baray mein…abhee se sochne ka koi faaida nai…abhee ye hae k what u r doing, u shud do well…since u r a student now, give ur best to ur studies and dont get distracted…aur har cheez apnay time pe ho gi inshallah as Allah has wished for u

best of luck with everything

Now: a hs senior

Next year: A med student, freshmen

Next 5-7 years: A doctor or almost a doc.

Focus on what's more important now. It's not laid in stone that marriage will take place at 23. If you prioritize education at the moment, head off to a good uni back home like mcmaster or U of M.
Life will have it curves and everything will fit in sooner or later. If education plus experience with the pakistani culture/people is more important, start looking through the med schools here. Don't worry too much about the tuition fee either -- lots of people work part time to handle it adn why not? pre med isnt phD.

At the end, it's not ur age(25 or 30), nor the tuition fee, nor the strict husband (i doubt your parents will hand u off to one who forbids practice), nor the culture/people that matter -- it all depends on what you've learned and how you apply it with justification to your profession.

g'luck.

^ I agree.

If your education and career are important to you right now, pursue them. Marriage will come, and inshAllah you will find a man (who’s a real man!) and will support you in your career. But you don’t need to make the who-will-i-marry decision right now. Just remember that not all men are so conservative, and you shouldn’t assume they are when making your decision.

As for which school:

  1. Where do you want to eventually settle? Obviously studying in the US or Canada gives you more options. Whereas if you go to a school in Karachi you will most likely have to retake several exams, etc. I know doctors from Aga Khan are highly respected in the international community. I’m not sure about DOW, but I know it’s a good school, so I think it’s worth looking in to.
  2. What schools have the best programs for neuroscience?
  3. Why not apply to multiple schools and make the decision based on acceptance and financial aid? Don’t forget that you CAN get aid. Also several schools have 7 year programs – combining undergrad and med school.

Make the decision based on your goals as they exist now. Don’t let an imaginary husband deter you. There are all kinds out there.

Best wishes :flower1:

Rani, X_Com aur Sahar dono ne boht achee advice dee hae, i agree with them completely as well :)

Thankyou for replying everybody :flower1:
faisaljawed007, irem baji, xcommi, sahar aapi

Thankyou so much again

ummm…faisal bhai…its not that i DONT want to live in canada…i mean…dono taraf faiday nuqsaan hein…
i have friends here n i’m used to the mahol waghera…so i mean…i wudnt LIKE leaving everything…
par there i have my rishtedaar…
no i dun have friends in karachi…par ussi tarah i dun have ANY rishtedaaar here…

kher..thats a different thing…
n yeah i admit i DO like that fobbish environment zyada…not that i’m a fob…i mean i dun look or sound like a fob par once u get to know me…like my shoq n my definition of “mazze”…u’ll realize i’m SO desi…heheh

kher…umm yeah they DO have sum nice colleges there…like Agha Khan…par its so hard to get into those colleges…
atleast for me…i dont have a 99% average …lol…

and about the 7 year program…umm..i’m not really sure wat ur talking about..
like i DO know u can finish ur pre-med in three years if u take courses in summer…same wish med…so that’ll make it 7/8 years…
shayad this is wat ur talking about…
par i dun think i’ll be able to do that since i would want breaks n i wud want to go visit pakistan chutiyon mein…hehe

and no…i dont WANT to get married at a yound age…parr knowing my family…i mean average age shadi ki yehi hoti hai…
so i was jus thinking about it…if it was TOTALLY up to me…i wudnt marry till im like…27/28…when im done…
par that wudnt make my family very happy…PLUS…islam mein bhi hai keh jaldi shadi kerna si behter…

kher…i dont really care about that stuff rite now…lekin i know i wont have control over everything…sub meri marzi se to nai hoga…to sochna parta hai

thanx for ur advice faisal bhai :flower1:

oh mannnnnnn…irem bajiiiiii hugzzz
i cant believe u took that much time to rite such a long post for me :teary1: …thankyou so much

umm…america canada ka system is almost the same…and about getting into a med skool…ummm…that shudnt be a problem…umm…n thats not the main issue rite now…
and even if koee problem howi…i mean…science mein bachelors ker ke i can go anywhere…dentistry…pharmacist (aaah NO…) …and thousands of different careers…related to medicine.. ..
kher…

jee…for sure wahan bhi ache colleges hein…like Agha Khan…lekin irem baji…u have any idea how hard it is to get into those colleges :bummer:
i mean…i’m an 80 student…no a 90 student…n agha khan wale to bohat mushkil se lete hein…woh bhi limited seats hoti hain bahir ki…AND…international students se dollars mein paise lete hein and then its the same thing…they’ll take almost the same amount of money as unis here…so phir faida hi kya u know…
haan DOW i can consider for sure…it’ll have such a desi environment…lol…perfect for me…parrr us mein bhi koee pakka nai keh mujhe accept ker lein…i’m not sum super genius person with a really high average…i mean compared to yahan ke students..i DO have a high average alhudullilah..par if i apply there…like i said…they jus decuct 10% off ur marks automatically…lol
so phir to mere itne ache marks nai rehein ge na…kher dekhte hein kya hota hai :frowning:

and yeah i am a canadian citizen…so its not a problem for me to live anywhere…

or lisence exam…umm…i dun think i’ll cum back here to work or anything if i end up doing MBBS in pakistan…like i said…i want to spend my parhayee ki baad ki life there…kher…u never know…kya hota hai

and yeah for sure the environment is gonna be different par being such a desi person i dun think i’ll have THAT many problems…lekin kya pata :-p…
or irem baji…parhayee achi to hai…parrr dont u think aik yahan keh doctor mein or wahan ke doctor mein BOHAT farq hota hai…
if u study here…in a good uni..it opens so many doors of opportunaties for u…u r alwayz up to date with the latest research waghera n u know ur getting the best of parhayee…plus…u can go anywhere in the world n ur degree will be accepted…
(same with Agha Khan..i think par then uski apni problems hein which i told u about before) …

yeah n thats the best thing about pakistan  …desi environment…n fun…lol

yes i will be staying in karachi..par not alone…my ammi jaan will never let me live alone…not even with my rishtedaarz i think…she said shes gonna cum live with me…n after 2 years…when my younger brother is done with HS…abbu n him can cum to pakistan too…

n yeah for AKU…u have to take ur SATs…since its an american skool :frowning:
par thats a different thing…i dont even think im ever going to AKU…theres a 5% chance i’ll get in…n like i said…even if i do…its so expensive…usse acha aap yahan hi nai parh lo…hehe

irem baji…i honestly dont like thinking or planning about shadis n stuff now…n i’m not the kinda larki whos gonna find a guy on her own…i’ll jus get married to whoever my parents want me to get married to…so u never know wat to expect…and sitting here choosing a career like MEDICINE..which takes like half of ur life to study…i do have to consider everything…
n maybe ur noticed this mere posts se…i DO alwayz think about “baad ki” ..long run ki sochti hoon mein n thats jus my aadat…dunno if its good or bad…i can never jus close my eyes n say thats wat i wanna do abhi…n jus start it…
agar koee or career hota to theek bhi tha…
par aesa career jis mein mein parhayee mei involve rahoon gi 28/29 tak…yeh sub baatein sochni parti hein
n i dont think is mein koee burayee hai keh im thinking about family waghera abhi se…
cause im not thinking of HAVING a family abhi se…lol…
i know my parents will find some1 for me…us mein koee problem nahi…problem is mein hai keh shadi keh baad will i be able to continue my education…or practise medicine…ya phir sub kuch zyada jaye ga? u know…

and no…i’m not the kinda girl jo yeh soch ker keh shayad i wont be able to work…jaoon hi nahi apni marzi ke profession mein  Alhumdullilah…
i have my own dreamz n khuahishien n jahan tak mein unhe poora ker sakti hoon…keroon gi

n mein maanti hoon hoon humein kal ka nai pata hota…par irem baji…plan to issi tarah kerna chahiye keh aage lambi zindagi parri hai…or khwab bhi issi tarah dekhne chahiye keh u’ll have time to make em true…
i dunno…thats jus me :bummer:
i think in terms of the long run…:-)…

kher…thankyou SOO much for all ur advices…it really helps to talk everything thru with someone…
love u irem baji  …*

aah rite…:frowning:
i personally DO want to get the best of parhayee AND practise medicine zindagi bharr…cause thats the whole point of becoming a doctor :crying:
kaam hi nai ker paoon to faida hi kya…

and yeah…family…culture…rishtedaarz…mazze.. all these things are VERY important to me…
bus choose yeh kerna hai keh wat is MORE important…the quality of parhayee u get ya…yeh sub cheezein…

kher…thankyou for ur reply  …and advice :flower1:

heheh…sahar aapi…i’m not making the WHO i will marry decision rite now :rotfl:

 ..

as i said earlier…after i’m done with parhayee n stuff…i wanna settle in pakistan…i think even if i get my degree from here…i’ll go back to pakistan to work in sum clinic/hospital jo bhi…
cause kabhi na kabhi to jaana hai pakistan (for good) …

neuroscience :smack: ..woh to mein bus skhan bhai ko example de rahi thi about my ounche ounche dreamz…lol…

or number 3…i like that…and thats exactly wat i was planning to do…and will do…inshAllah

and dont worry…any imaginary guy will never cum between me n my dreamz…
cause dream to doctor banne ka hai na…
wahan par bhi reh ker bun jaon to afsos nahi hoga

thankyou for ur advices  ..

Oh Rani i was just saying that mcmaster medical program is 3 years instead of the usual four years. that means you will be getting your MD one year earlier. Well dont stress about it so much, you still got lot of time ahead of you inshallah. I know one of my friend who got admission in pakistan for medical after his 2nd year in undergrad. I dont think you need such a high average.......he got in with 89%.

dang…89% is a HIGH average faisal bhai…
my average last year was like…85 :bummer:

now i feel so dumb :frowning:

Rani sweetu hugz
